electric gear slide stuck inside

My first RV and post, hello all.

Today on my 2004 Monaco Signature, the electric gear driver side bedroom slide got stuck inside after parking and leveling. My living room and passenger bedroom slides went out just fine.

The same thing happened yesterday so I did what the previous owner suggested as he had run into this issue before. I raised the bed to access the gear and used a wrench to jiggle the manual gear nut as my wife pushed the slide button. This worked.

Today, this same solution is not working, we can hear the motor attempting to move as she presses the button in ot out but with all my jiggling of the manual gear nut, it will not slide out.

any suggestions or experience on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
  • If you need a new motor/drive, check with Claudia Haddix (Claudia@makariosrv.com)at Makariosrv. Claudia helped me find a hard to find motor/drive for an orphaned Open Road 5th wheel, and the price was about 1/2 of what I would have gotten from Liepert.
  • Thanks for all the input. I found the issue, I had a loose relay switch on the slide out relay board under the bed.
  • Are you able to get photos of what is going on? Generally with "gears" it is very wishy washy to "hear" it in text only. Even vocally it's sometimes hard to grasp. Visually I may be of more help. :)
  • Some general ideas to check for:

Make sure nothing is in a bind and causing it to truly be stuck. Check all the seals, the floor rollers, the topper (if you have one), anything that could get bound up and keep the slide from moving. Make sure you are level or close to it. If the coach is slightly twisted or racked, it might bind up the slide as well. You've already confirmed that you have power as you said the motor sounds like it's trying to engage. Check to make sure the linkage bolts are not loose or broken. Check to make sure the motor brake is in the right position.
  • If you have to replace it, on my providence it was literally a 10 minute job. I would assume it is a powergear. There is a large pedeal looking piece covered in rubber. Release it, place a socket on the nut and crank the slide in or out. They do go out. Around 800 bucks.
