I stumbled on this one - Water's edge RV park. Looks pretty nice and rates are much better than HTP.
water's edge
White Oak shores is still $75/day. Might as well pay the extra $20 and be on the beach.
93 you are right, most are either mobile home parks with full time residents or gone.
I might sound callous toward NC beaches as far as RV's are concerned, but I am a born and raised North Carolinian. There used to be numerous true "RV Campgrounds" right on the ocean, up and down Salter Path Rd. However, over the years, condos and million dollar homes have taken their place. Those few left that are off the ocean are expensive and u still have to drive to get to the beach. It's unfortunate, but there are still a few left way out on the outer banks. I supposed this is because developers are getting kind of scared of building any more million dollar homes out there because with every hurricane we get, it just erodes away the cost line and the highway. But, good luck on getting a reservation out there in the peak of the season. :)
Yep.. I was born and raised and still live here in the Old North State. Growing up my family had a travel trailer and we spent quite a few weekends and vacations in some of those, now disappeared, travel parks. It's a shame, really...have some very fond memories of camping along the coast. Seems camping went the way of time shares and permanent camp sites vs traveling around.
Effy... not that I want you to take your business elsewhere...(about the only really nice campground in Emerald Isle is Holiday Travel Park. Haven't been there personally, but yeah, it looks like a big parking lot with hookups)...but I think you'd find that for a couple more hours down the road, Myrtle Beach is much more camper-friendly than the NC Coastline. We've recently stayed at the KOA which is basically a block off the main US17 strip in Myrtle Beach and about 3 blocks back off the beach. We really enjoyed the stay. They have full hookups, plenty of shade and decent sized pull-through lots up to 80'. Good security too! We've already got a week in October booked for the Fall Harley Rally. We were supposed to be going this May, but other conflicts took precedence.
We're finding that unless you stay in a state park without hookups, or with only electricity/water, the places that can handle a 36' or bigger RV are $70 or more per night.
Oh, and specifically on getting to Emerald Isle...there's a pretty decent span of bridge over the water that you have to cross. Gets a little windy at the peak. Just FYI....
