emergency portable air compressor

I would like to buy a small compressor to top off tire pressures while in the road. Does anyone have a recommendation? What is the max amp draw for the cab power point on an my 2015 E-350? I found a spot in the manual that warns not to exceed 12v 180W power point capacity which if my math is correct can provide up to 15 amps, is that correct?

Interesting product. Kind of spendy, though, IMHO.

Carbon dioxide tends to diffuse through rubber comparatively easily, so it's not ideal for filling tires, but would certainly be far, far better to driving on underinflated tires. (They might need topping up a little bit more frequently.

I'll take your word for it but I've been using it for years and haven't noticed anything like that.

I have a Fini AirBoss 120V compressor; this is a nice small compressor and works very well. It's probably overkill for topping up tires, truth be told. If I need to add some air to a tire on the road, I'll just have to use the generator that the motorhome already has. While it has a built-in tire valve doohicky, I do bring along a proper dually chuck to use instead.

The 12V mini tire pumps that plug into a lighter socket are nearly useless for motorhome tires; you'll be listening to a hellacious racket for a long time before you get to 80 psi. They're barely sufficient for car tires. I think I would rather use a good bicycle pump than one of them—it's quieter and quite possibly faster.
  • I got this on:e http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/QIN0/MV50/N0184.oap?ck=Search_tire+inflators+%26+air+pumps_-1_2955&keyword=tire+inflators+%26+air+pumps

Seems to be ok but did not work with valve extenders. Broke the depressor on the hoise trying to hook up. Wrote to company they sent at no charge a new one and the part number for the nozzle that would work.

Also I went to Harbor freight and got a 110v 3 gal compressor for $39 on sale.
  • I would second that For a small and compact air compressor that fits the bill and is easy to store in my class c
I got a Viair, one of best names on the market.
  • That sounds like a much better plan, direct from the battery takes the van's electrical system out of the equation. Thank you!
