Ever had your mirrors hit by a pasing truck?

I was in Mexico driving along a newer two lane section of Mex-185 and unfortunately the contractor had left a 2 foot drop on each side of the road. For miles. And the vegetation re-growth showed it had been that way for quite a while. It was scary just as it was as the road wasn't all that wide either.

Anyway, one of those big commercial buses was heading towards me in the opposite lane and I tried to squeeze myself over as far as I could without flying off the road and rolling two or three times. The bus driver wasn't giving me much room either. Didn't give me an extra inch. Jeese.

Then BANG, my passenger side mirror shattered on impact with a road speed sign placed too close to the road! Idiots! Thought I'd been shot. No glass was lost as the mirror had a sticky backed heater stuck to the back of it. It was just in too many pieces to use though. It did put some scratches on the mirror casing and bent the large stainless steel bolt used as the pivot but it stayed in place.

When I got to Mazatlan, asked my taxi driver friend if he knew where I could get a new one made. Two hours and $20 later I had two new mirrors. Had to install it myself, but it wasn't that difficult. The 2nd one was a spare in case it happened again.

Following a friend in my MH from their house around Stubenville, PA. Unfamiliar territory for me and it was down a twisting winding mountain road that when I came out of the clearing put me right smack onto a suspended bridge that looked like it was built in the 1800's! :E

With a semi approaching from the other way. Thought I was a goner, I think I even closed my eyes. Took the mirror right off.

Can't repeat what I did and said to friend after I got across the bridge.

I was aware about mirrors collisions while going to Mexico.
On roads in Baja, my both side mirror were sticking past the traffic lines.
With 6" of shoulder it did not give much margin for errors, but I develop a technique that after 1500 miles in Baja brought me home with unbroken mirrors.

66 in Nam on HY 1 , 5 ton coming my way , me in a 2 1/2 Not room for the both of us. I going down hill with all I've got and he was doing the same heading up the hill. BOOM there they went . The Lt. setting next to me looked over ask if he was stopping , I say no he said lets get the hell out of here.

Way back when I had my truck, a 1984 Chevy C30 dually crew cab, parked at the curb in front of our house. Across the street lived a truck driver who parked his tractor in his driveway. One morning he was backing out of his driveway and took out my driver's side mirror - he never did acknowledge that he did it and I ended up replacing it myself. We had other issues with him and he ended up moving - the neighborhood has been better off ever since...

Smacked mirrors with a broken down semi truck sitting in the right lane of a three lane city street. Rush hour, and I should have waited to leave the house, but wanted to get to the campground before dark.

Semi truck was angled about 10 deg. out from the curb, and by the time I rolled up on it at 35 mph, I couldn't get over to the left, so off went my passenger side mirror.

Mirror hit the side of the coach twice before bouncing into the right lane and shattering...throwing big chunks right into the grill of the F150 who had been behind me, but had sped up and moved into the right lane. Mirror and housing nothing but small pieces after that.

Finally got stopped a few hundred yards later. F150 kept going...guess he didn't care. Semi truck was empty, flashers on. Looked at the left mirror and it was cracked. Older crack because it had dirt in it. Black scuff on the exterior chrome was all I could see I did. I left a note and said I had hit the mirror. Never heard anything back.

Replaced my mirror/head with a new one from Ryder Fleet Truck parts...$150 delivered to my door 3 days later. Backing into my campsite in the dark was challenging, but got it done.

Three months ago on an RV tour in Baja California Mexico. Mex 1 gets pretty narrow. North bound just south Loreto, BCS a south bound garbage truck hit my driver side mirror. We were both doing about 45 or 50 MPH in opposite directions. The arm and mirror motors was all that was left. It went with a bang. I pulled over as soon as I could and he was no where in sight.
To finish the trip I swapped the right mirror to the left side and used the back up camera until I got back to Texas. Found a replacement online for $250 including shipping.
Three others got their mirrors hit on the trip too.

We had gotten off the Interstate for lunch on day 2 of our around the US tour. At a traffic light, a big semi made a right turn and the tail end shattered our passenger mirror. Chased after him and got him to pull over. Driver very sorry and eventually we were paid for the mirror. Fortunately, with drivers help, we were able to make the mirror useable, otherwise we would have had to stay there for 2 weeks until the new mirror came in.

Never another vehicle but pass side hit a sign that was even with the edge of the road----took out the mirror AND the windshield on my DP. Insurance paid for it but Velvac is proud of those mirrors----over $600

Driving home from new purchase and let the wife drive the last 5 mile stretch home. Made it 2 miles before she broke the mirror. Found the parts online for $45.
