F-53 Sway Bar Adjustment

We just did this on ours also, DH said he wished he would have known about it 3 years ago. We had a steering stabalizer put on which helped some, but he said this was an amazing difference.

What gets me is why Fleetwood did not make these adjustments to make the motorhomes steer better and sway less, it cost nothing, I know Ford delivered them that way but RV manufactures could have just done this to improve there product..

Yes the sway bar change does make a difference all for the better and the price is right-NOW if you care to go a step further make yourself a rear trac bar (panhard bar) It will enhance the handling even further after we did ours we drove ten hrs coming from FL. not hurrying and stopping for pit stops but the point is I wasn't tired because the MH drove and handled so easy-Rich

You said make one, how bout can I buy one for a F-53, my shed in back lacks tools for metal work.

Yes you cam buy one.

If I were to buy one I would look at the Henderson line or find a race shop in your area and have them fabricate one-You would be surprised how simple and cheap one can build with a few tools-If you can build it with cardboard for templetes any race shop can make it for you-Google OEMY's DIY projects my homemade trac bar is shown there-Rich Peceniak

I called Forest River (Georgetown) on this after I did the "cheap handling fix" and asked "why don't the coach builders do the change because it handles so much better?" The response was..."More people complain about the rough ride than the handling problem and the initial settings for the suspension from the Ford factory is a softer ride." For me....Give me handling any day.

Oemy's site also includes examples of other guy's home-made trac-bars and plans. That is the way I went with mine. works wonders.

MustangGT I noticed when I made my trac bar on my Ford F-53 chassis that I could not safely attach the trac bar mount to the diff. like most did because my cover bolts were in the rear and I thought to small so I mounted off the big u-bolts holding the springs-Really holds everything tight and the steering wheel correction and movement from semi's going by are virtually gone,I find I can drive further & longer with less fatigue--My trac bar is in OEMY's file -Rich Peceniak

Low cost? The cheapest one I can find is $500.00 plus. Is there a less expensive one out there?
