Greetings one and all,On the motorhome manufacturers websites I see many coaches with a fireplace. Are they functional, do they actually put out heat, or are they purely decorative? If they do put out heat is it serious heat that will add warmth to the entire coach or simply up close and personal heat?As always thank for your help,Harry

We spend our summers on the Oregon coast (about 100 yds from the beach) and during early morning hours, the temp does drop down into the 50s and so the coach is a little chilly when we first get up. However, we turn on the fireplace and while it doesn't put out a lot of heat, it does warm up the immediate area in the living room. We use it every morning.No, it will not warm up the entire coach.Ron

They are 1500 watts same as any heater. They also have a fan. We use ours all the time.

It is an ELECTRIC HEATER that puts out real heat. It has a rotating drum with a back lit light that simulates a real fireplace...They are great for the cool mornings...Alot of folks just uses the rotating Drun for a fireplace simulation. Kinda neat actually...It is a real electric heater to answer your question

My coach has an entertainment center with an electric fireplace in it directly across from the recliner sofa. It puts out good heat. Love the warmth and ambience of it while DW and I sip wine and watch a movie;)

As to looks over function. It is a personal decision. The FP actually takes so little space that it uses very little storage space. We love the ambiance. Great trade for the minimal space lost. Now space lost may also depend on floorplan. Some loose more than others.

Hey Moonlightrunner,

In many motorhomes a TV is shown above the fireplace. If you were to use the "Fuel-Firebox-Insert" with a TV above, would the FP generate too much heat for the TV? The "Fuel-Firebox-Insert" would heat the entire motorhome regardless of the outside temp!

True, however, you can't move them and they take up valuable storage space. We have two Lasko towers that we move from room to room, depending on where you want the heat. The FPs do look nice, be we opted for functionality rather than looks.

Unfortunately, my heat pump doesn't work once the ambient temps hit 43F. Maybe if I was staying the winter in warmer climes. Perhaps next winter I will shift back to FL.

I'll take a 15K reverse cycle/heat pump AC unit that's 2-3 time more efficient taking the chill off in the morning over restive heating in any form.

Got friends who put a firebox insert in their bus conversion. It's an LP ventless one they bought from Home Depot. They delivered it right to the campground site. It heated things up very nicely for Christmas while I was visiting. They say it eats propane at the rate of a 20# tank in 5 or 6 days. I can deal with that. They were not running it at night but were running from 6AM to 11PM. It is so pretty. I want one! I bookmarked it too. BTW, the CO detector doesn't register any CO (and the detector does work). Upside to the LP fireplace is that it heats when there is no power.

NOW WONT HAVE A RV WITHOUT..
THEY ARE QUIET AND HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR THE Elec..

I've been in many cabins in Wyoming that have a propane heater that does not require a stack and Oh-Momma-Meaaa do they put out the heat.

Generally the fireplace is an electric fake fireplace with a 1500 watt heater inside.. looks nice (So does a free app for Windows 8) and puts out the standard 1500 watts worth of heat..

I have heard of one RV that had a genuine wood burner in it... Most unique. IT was not a factory install however. It was an owner mod.
