Firestone Air Springs

Anyone used them? Comments, reviews?

Firestone Ride Rite Air Springs

Considering them as an option to correct the negative arc on my driver's side leaf spring, causing it to lean to one side, instead of replacing both front leaf springs to correct the ride height.

I'm getting mixed reports on the difficulty level of replacing the leaf springs myself in my driveway in lieu of having a truck shop do it...which I'm having difficulty finding as well. So far, none of the truck shops that I've called seems to want to work on motorhomes.

You might try taking a few pictures and sending them to the shop before you make the drive for them to "look at it". After seeing the pictures he should be able to give you an estimate on replacing the spring, which are usually replaced in pairs, and how long it would take. Two hour drive is not that convenient but it is what it is, if nobody else wants to work on it. It is not that difficult of a job but it does take a little time and some basic equipment that most shops would have.
Here is a link to get an idea of the spring cost: SD truck springs
There may be cheaper places since I just grabbed this place off of the internet.

I've been eyeballing SD Truck Springs for their pricing and so far, they have the best, but it'll be over a grand for the two springs alone. Ford stealerships don't even carry springs for that year model anymore, much less finding a shop that will work on it. I might try the picture thing...hadn't really thought about doing that. It would save me a trip and a day off work that would be better used on vacation instead of waiting in a repair shop watching bad cable and drinking bad coffee only to find out that they don't want to do the job.....already been there and done that.......
  • If it was mine ,I would buy the air bags and put them on with a separate air line so you could level the unit out. I have them on mine and it takes the load off the springs and I am only running them at 20#

  • I got 4 air bags on my motorhome as well, its there for keeping my back up while towing heavy and to add some cushion to the front, you could use it for what you need but new leaf springs will still be needed in the future.

First I would get your coach weighed to see if you have a weight placement problem. Then I would replace the spring if it is shot. Last I would consider installing air bags to correct the problem.
Most shops don't like to work on motor homes because they take up space and usually cannot fit on to their lifts. Just go to a medium truck shop and see if they will take care of your springs.
I have four corner air bags but it was not to correct a lean but they allow me to air them up from the driver's seat to allow me to drive in high wind situations in the Great Plains without being blown about.

Thanks. It's not a weight distribution problem. Completely unloaded, the spring had a slight negative arc. The closest truck shop around me that has agreed to look at it is about 2 hours away.
