Fleetwood Excursion

I happened to glance at a 2015 Fleetwood Excursion 33D. It has a 300HP Cummins ISB 6.7L diesel engine. The coach I own has a 340HP Workhorse 8.1L gas engine. Both have the Allison 6 speed transmission. I'm no mechanic or engineer, but I can subtract. Would I not be losing 40 horse power? Would that some how be gained back because it is a diesel?
  • I think the drive train is a good fit for the new Excursion at the lengths it comes in. Nice looking RV too.
  • The 33D is about 33' 10" and the 35B is 36' 9". Check out RVGuide.com for the specs and NADA pricing.

You're subtracting the two numbers correctly, but they're apples and oranges. Check out the difference in torque.

I'm surprised the new Excursions are down to 300HP, when they had the Cat C7, it was at 350HP.

They no longer come in a 40' size. Original Excursion (one under the Revolution) replaced by the Providence in 07? and is now since 2014 Fleetwood's entry level DP. I think 36' max.

Excursion (entry market) doesn't come in a 40'. In the following order (price wise) from Fleetwood they all have a 40' model - Expedition, Discovery, Providence ( top of the pecking order)

  • Already been said but what the heck, torque is everything.

As my signature says, I've got the 2014 and its 300hp too. Based in the northwest, I can assure you it does mountain passes very well and with the gas bags and rear engine, quiet, smooth ride are definitely the words to describe the experience. Um, not to mention some darn good mpg even with the toad.

Yes because you will be gaining a lot of torque at very low RPM. It would be a night and day difference driving.

Not to mention its a pusher so it will be a quieter ride for you with the engine in the back.
  • The new Excursion is more of an entry level coach rather than being on the top of the chain. Check the power to weight ratio. The gas may indeed go uphill a little faster if you like 3500 RPM of hot motor under your feet and in your ears rather than in the back where you can't hear it.
