ford v10 oil change

Hi to all from Denny and Ida AS my wee blonde and I are sitting in the house waiting for the snow to stop I have been thinking about our MH in storage. WE normally use a 10W 30 Quaker state oil in it . WE only have 21000 miles on it with oil changes every 3500 miles. I would like to change to something like Mobile 1 synthetic oil. I have herd nothing but good things about it. I am wondering if changing to synthetic now would be ok . thank you for any input on this. Denny and my wee blonde Ida

I notice that photo of the Ford recommended oil container for some reason shows it's weight to be 10W-30.

Ford recommends that 5W-20 be used in the V10 ... so I don't understand why the photo of the red 10W-30 container??

You don't understand why Ford makes 10W30?

Or why the picture doesn't show 5W20?

I don't understand why it would matter what the picture shows?

    Same here
  • 10W-anything is too heavy for the V10. This will increase the time after startup for the bottom end to get any lubrication. The passages in the Triton motors are much tighter than those in older pushrod motors. You aren't doing yourself any favors trying to outguess the engineers.
  • I used to use 5W-20W Mobil 1 synthetic in our Ford V10 motorhome, but I switched to Mobil 1 Extended Performance synthetic some time ago.

Even though I now use the Extended Performance version of Mobil 1 synthetic, I still change it at the recommended stock oil change intervals. I figure that Extended Performance Mobil 1 synthetic may have even a superior formulation to regular Mobil 1 synthetic, so I'm taking no chances with our RV's engine ... it's too important. The cost difference is trivial, since I now buy my Mobil 1 Extended Performance EP 5W-20W synthetic at Walmart in the super-economical five quart container size.
  • 5W20 is what I use since new. Now at 82K and I never have to add oil between oil changes
  • Motor craft 5w20 that is what is recommended 65,000 mi. Change oil once a year never have to add oil.
  • I use Fords Synthetic Blend. And go by Fords Owners manual on how often, I forget how many miles but it's about twice the 3500 miles.

"now"? If you mean "go to synthetic oil at 21000?" then YES.
If you mean "crawl under a snowdrift?" then NOT TILL SPRING.?
