fresh water sensors

I found the problem. Mice had chewed all but 1 wire to the fresh water tank. I had to remove the inside wall of the storage area to get to the tank and sensors. I put spade lugs on the dressed up wire and reconnected. Luckily there was enough wire on the old connection so I could tel what color wire went to what sensor. Haven't put water back in the tank yet but am confident that all will be right. FYI, at the monitor, if you short the fresh water wire(blue) to ground, and then press the fresh water button, the monitor should read full. Thanks for all the input. It really helped a lot.....

I made an absolutely accurate and reliable freshwater tank gauge. I just attached three feet of clear plastic tubing onto the drain tap and routed it over one of the bumper struts. I open the tap and the water level shows clearly in the tube.

Does your floorplan for your model 285 look like this? -

Just looking, I would guess that your fresh tank is somewhere under the bed in back. It will be close to the water pump. Often times, lifting the mattress you will find you can remove the plywood cover(s) and see the tank.

Ours is similar to that. It is located under the dinette bench seat.

I have a 2001 c unit and the sensors stopped working a few months after we purchased the unit, mind you we would go to the desert 2 to 3 times per month, the only sensors still working half assed are the propane and the battery, having the fresh water tank under the couch I made a window and placed a light to illuminate the tank and marked it with black pen 1/4 intervals, the black tank is visible from the toilet and the grey comes up in the shower stall, I am back at the visual indicators.

I cant see any part of the tank other than the small part where the low point drains are. I can see the drain tube for the FW but no wiring attached to the tank. have not taken any resistance reading with meter yet. will try that next to see if i have continuity. It looks like the tank is under the flooring but not exposed to the outside. but in any case thanks for all the help.

exposed area above the FW tank and under the queen bed and saw no wiring that resembled the wires to the monitor panel It appears the ground wire for all the tanks are located where I cant see. So, i think the wisest thing now would be stop and when i go in for service, let them do it!

The sensors are generally on the side of the tank from top to bottom. You should see them on the outside where the wires connect to them and you should be able to check the connections. You may have to get under to where the tank is to see all of this.

Could you maybe have a bad ground for your panel? Can you even see the bottom of your water tank? I'm thinking maybe if you could remove the bottom drain plug and look up to see your in tank sensor you might get a clue as to what might be going on with it.

Wow!thanks for all the replies... the rig is a r-vision truelite b+ 285 plan its really a C but there is no bed over the driver/passenger. Instead of a bed, that is where the entertainment center and some storage. As far as build up, I'm almost certain you're right. We have hard water here and loaded with stuff that pits up all the chrome if not kept wiped off. But we also are out in the country and could be we have had mice chew wiring. My problem is the construction of the unit keeps me from access to the FW tank and cant see if wiring is bad. Even if i could use outside sensors, I still could not get to wiring to connect to monitor panel. So, next question would be, is there anuthing I can add to the water to clean the sensors?
BTW I have done a lot to our RV like re doing the electrical power panel, TV and sound distributin etc and would be glad to show pictures and diagram of what i have done if aynone is interested.... Thamks again

Sorry ...my bad . I misread it as the other tank. The advice about the outside sensors still holds though. Ice advice might help someone else. Many times all the sensors are determined to be not very accurate.

Me neither. I wonder how you get a few bags of ice in the FW tank?
And what crud builds up on the FW tank sensors? I thought sanitizing kept the FW tank clean.
