frige level

does a refrigerator have to be level if you operate on electricity versus gas? Thank you.

Personally I would not go by any "If it's level enough to..." statements. Those aren't going to help you when the fridge wont cool in hot weather because it's partially clogged.

Actually I tend to agree with you But here is a direct quote from the Dometic manual:"Leveling is one of the requirements for proper operation with absorption refrigerators.

To ensure proper leveling the vehicle needs to be leveled only so it is comfortable to live in (no noticeable sloping of floor or walls)." (italics mine)

  • Level is the most critical issue for RV absorption fridge operation regardless of heat source (electric or gas).

The ammonia cooling solution depends on proper gravity flow in order to make it's way down thru cooling unit. Off level operation interrupts the proper gravity flow which results in overheating of coolant...when coolant overheats the corrosion inhibitor turns to crystals which attach to the inside of tubing and causes blockage which causes more overheating, more block etc. until cooling unit DIES. Blockage is permanent and the only fix is replacement.

Electric or gas is just the heat source.......doesn't matter.
    LEVEL matters!

  • If you're level enough to sleep, you're level enough for your refrigerator.
  • Yes, these friges are different from the home types. Try to keep it fairly
level while operating, it will last longer.
