Fuse panel locations

I have a new to me, 2007 Itasca Horizon 40FD and a trailer wiring issue. On the tow dolly, the left turn and brake lights don't work. Running lights, right brake and turn work. Coach lights work. The Freightliner chassis owner's manual shows circuit breaker and fuse panels, one of which is the optional Tow Power PDMs. In that panel there are separate fuses/CBs 20A for the left and right "Tow left turn" and "tow right turn". Problem is I can't find that panel. It's not in the electrical compartment forward of the lefty from wheel, can't find one in generator or engine compartment, and also can't find one in steering wheel vicinity. These are locations mentioned in the owner's manual without being specific where.

Thanks in advance.

  • "drwwicks".....On both of my DP's I photographed all the locations where there were fuses and circuit breakers. Four places on my current coach. I printed out the photos, noting what bays they are in. This way, when you have a fuse blow, you can look at the photos and know where to go. I even created a Word document that was associated with each photo, describing what's there. Here are two examples.

I keep a folder, in the pouch behind the driver's seat, where I keep things like the fuses, Allison Shift pad procedures for checking fluid levels, MCD power front shade adjust, Manual Regen procedures, etc.

  • Emiddleb, you are correct. Found them, 2 boxes aft of the radiator on the driver's side. PIA to get to for fuses and my guess, I'm the fist to go in there. The 20A left turn was blown. Hopefully just age and stress and not a short to cause it. I'll get some spares for it. Unfortunately, neither Freightline nor Itasca bothered with that little nicety.

    Thank for the forum help.
  • Winnebago Vectra/Horizon's tow fuses are almost always on the driver's side rear. Freightliner supplies the box but the RV manufacturer decides where to mount it.
  • In a black box with Ames or something like that on it. In rear storage box passenger side. Loosen 4 screws remove box lid. Fuse layout is printed inside lid.
  • The Freightliner tow fuses are usually at the rear on the driver side. Usually found in one of two spots... in the electric bay behind a panel that is screwed on to the wall, or (as in mine) in my side-mounted radiator bay. Not sure which engine you have on yours, but if you have the side radiator then you need to unscrew that panel (2 screws on side in next bay, 2 underneath) and prop the panel up. My fuses were at the right, at the very back of the coach.

Others have found them behind the power bay panel... look for 6 screws holding a panel to a wall.

    Here's a thread with pictures...

  • Aft of the right rear wheel is the battery compartment, no fuses I can see, and forward has the vacuum and no fuses. That panel on the left I mentioned above has heavy relays and connectors but no fuses.

BTW, the left signals on the tow dolly and lift worked at the start of the trip.
  • The dolly and motorcycle lift, with turn and brake signals too, lights are good. A test light at the 7 pole connector shows no power to the left turn/brake connector, but power to the running and right signals. I did find a placard in the main electrical compartment stating that "chassis manufacturer's electrical components and rear fuse panel located under left rear valance door". Below that is a cover which says, " chassis manufacturer's electrical components", but it is held in place with 4 bolts. I haven't removed the bolts yet because it seems to me to be a stupid place to put fuses. Still can't locate any under steering wheel.

Guess I'll get out the nut driver and see what's there. I'll post my results
  • That fuse panel-Fuse box is most likely in the basement near the passenger side rear wheel. Look for a black plastic 4x4" box.
    Good hunting!

  • While I can't help you with the fuse panel question, I'd use a 12VDC meter to find out if it's the fuse or a wiring issue. Right turn is green, Left turn is yellow. Test the wiring from the coach to see if it's "live". If it is, then the issue is with the dolly wiring. If not, then you'll have to continue your search. Regardless, it's good to know where your fuse boxes are. A call to Winnie should give you that answer unless someone chimes in here pretty soon....best of luck...Dennis
