Hi Folks,First post here:My 95 Rexhall Vision with Generac generator is turning over, but won't fire up. It's not getting fuel from the tank. I disconnected the fuel line from the (I don't really know what it is that has the tank hose going in from the right, and a copper line coming out on the left going to the carburator. ) I blew in to the hose, and can hear bubbling, but there's very little resistance, as if the hose is barely in the gas. When I sucked on the hose, again no resistance (I was trying to get some gas to come out). The fuel tank says 3/4 full in the instrument panel. The fuel hose goes in to the tank from the top. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thx!

Was the fuel filter changed lately?Was the generator running previously and now it won't start?

Is this a new motorhome to you or have you had it a while? Go to gas station and fill tank up. Is fuel gauge accurate? The rubber hose has dry rotted somewhere and you are sucking air.Replace rubber hose.

My bet is the main jet in the carb is plugged with varnish. Go to the store and buy a can of SeaFoam. Try to get as much as possible down that hose and into the carburetor bowl. Come back in 24 hours with a can of starter fluid. Shoot a little starter fluid down the carb while cranking over the motor. If it fires off you may have to keep lightly misting with starter fluid to keep it running. If it won't run after a minute or so without the starter fluid, rebuild the carb.

The fuel filter had been changed. And, yes. The generator had run. Not for me as a new owner, but the previous owner who had aquired it from a family member. He said the gen started, then shut down. I'll check the hose. A compromise in the hose might explain the resistance issue. I'll also try the Sea Foam and starter fluid. I'll get back to you...Thx!

i had a 92 MH, where the onan generator was not getting gas, even with a full tank, i use a compressor to blow air into the fuel line, and listen at the gas tank with the cap off,lots of AIR noise , no bubbling noisethe fuel pickup had broken offso i put a 'Tee" in the main fuel line and connected the generator line too itno way was i going to the trouble or expense of dropping a 70gal steel tank that had welded straps holding itI never had a problems with it after that

It's actually a '97. Doh!
No spark getting to the gen. It may be time to hire a mechanic.

Hi Doug,
I can reach the fuel line by squeeeeezing over the drive shaft. I'll get in there with a head lamp and change it out.
My bigger issue now is no spark to the gen. I took out the spark plug, reattached it to the plug wire and tried to start the generator. No spark. Not sure what to do now.

Usually on an older Gas model motorhome, the rubber fuel line that is connected on top the fuel tank has dry rotted out and has splits and cracks and cannot have the intergrity to allow the fuel pump to pull fuel out of the tank. You have to drop the tank to check and verify and replace this fuel line. Doug

Update:
Just pulled a spark plug, and re-attached to plug wire. No spark seen when turning over from ignition. Bummer.
The good news is the fuel pump is fine. :)

I know ho you feel I have a 1996 MH and want to sell it with these type of problems, but once fixed I think it will last longer than me. I have change the fuel pump, coil, and control board on mine to keep it running over the years.

I assume the fuel pump is whats between the rubber hose from the tank and the copper tube going to the carburator.
With all of this great advice, I'm feeling pretty good about a diagnosis and fix.

If I get it running, I may not sell the darn thing after all!

You said you blew into the pickup line and you heard bubbles, so the line is not kinked or obstructed. I would put a clear plastic line on it and suck the fuel into the clear plastic then put your finger over the end and see if there is any drain back into the main tank. If not that means your line is not rotted. The next thing to do is check to see if the fuel pump works by attaching a clear plastic hose into a gal container and see if it draws fuel from the can. If it does add some Seafoam as JohnJoey suggested and run it for an hr under load. If not make sure your electric connection are good and you are getting power to the fuel pump before you replace it. I never had a problems with it after that
