It sounds like you do not have an automatic transfer switch so you must manually plug in your 110 power. I assume it is a 30 amp connection and you have plugged the house cord directly into a 30 amp connection located near or on the generator. If you are needing again kind of adapter then you are plugging in to the wrong outlet. This is a long shot but we got diverted by discussing auto magic transfer switch. My new generator stopped producing electricity recently and the generator continued to run but not produce. It was a short in the wiring harness.
