Generator runs but no power?

Hey Everyone I have a 1999 Sea Breeze that I just bought.
1 problem I have is when I bought the RV the owner showed me everything but I retained very little.
My other problem is I can start the generator but get no power to the RV? With the cord plugged in to the gen.
If I plug the cord into the house I get power to the microwave, AC ect. But when I plug the cord back into the outlet on the generator and start the gen I get no power to the RV.
Ive checked fuses I can find & nothings tripped?
There has to be a switch im missing since when the previous owner walked me through he started the generator and everything worked? What am I missing?
  • If it is a GENERAC, (mine is a 5500) there are two circuit breakers (flip switches) right there where the start/stop/prime buttons are.
    Make sure both are "ON".
  • should be a switch on the gen...power on or off switch!
  • Look behind the fuel pump on an Onan for 2 circuit breakers
  • look for a breaker on the gen set, call the old owner and ask him where its at,
  • Can you provide the make and model of the generator so we can try to help you solve it?

Also, the first think I'd do is plug in an electrical device such as a light directly to the generator. If the light comes on, the generator is putting out AC power, and the fault is somewhere between your generator and the outlets in your RV.

there should be at least one and maybe two circuit breakers ON the genny itself. check there.
