Good Sam Rally - Syracuse

My wife and I are headed to our first "Rally" and am anxious to hear from those of you who have attended rallies like this and what advice you might offer. It is certainly total immersion and there are a variety of "unknowns"...how much food to bring, we are not bringing our Jeep and thus curious about food to bring, etc., etc.

Thanks.
  • We went to the Good sam rally last year in Daytona and towed our car. Never once did we use the car in 4 days of being there. We ate at the MH but had easy things such as sandwich stuff, chips, soda's.
They had several vendors there with excellent well priced food, so this worked well in between while walking around the area.
  • We are going to visit Niagara Falls on the way and we will need the toad. Not too far from Syracuse
  • There is a site map on the web site ... Rally Site

As far as food is concerned - bring the average amount - there are always food vendors and you could also meet someone new and if they are heading out shopping hop a ride or ask someone going out to pick something up. I have found over the years people at rallies are looking to meet new people and usually willing to help out when needed.
  • We've attended several FMCA rally's over the years and we have never experienced issues with the distance, quite ofen over 5000 rig's and we were able to walk to the site, an/or use the shuttle bus's, they were very reliable, never attended the Syracuse rally, so it may be different. JMHO.
  • We've been to Good Sam national rallies where the RV parking was several miles from the "show" grounds, and the shuttle busses were unreliable. One day, waits of 2hrs for a bus were not unusual. Might want to check where the rigs will park relative to the exhibit halls and meeting rooms. If they're a ways away, might want to reconsider bringing the toad, as you may be able to commute (even carpool) much more quickly. There will be plenty of food available at the rally grounds itself (but on the spendy side), but maybe not for breakfast or an evening meal.

Other than that, meet as many people as you can, wear comfortable shoes, don't spend anything your first trip through the exhibit halls (until you know who's got what), soak up as much info as you can, and have fun!
