Great, Average or Poor deal

Can I have some feedback on the valuation of this Newmar please. I have poked around online and it seems in its price spread. There is also a TOAD there that could be part of the deal but lets just focus on the coach please as I don't think it will be something I want.

2009 Newmar Dutch Star 4386

To ad...I have heard all good about Newmar...I realize this is an entry level trim level, is it wise advice to consider this one?

Looks good but pics can fool you. I would make any offer on condition that coach met my expectations after inspection and test drive.

If the coach has been properly maintained, I would give it serious consideration. Newmar has great build quality and a solid reputation. Reading your threads, I believe it is apparent you are really not sure what is right for you so this coach should be a great place to start and explore the RV lifestyle.

I agree...it is very difficult to determine the right choice when starting out. I typically would just go and buy the best I could pay cash for and feel good about that. In this arena, the best if very hard to determine. So I am leaning on your nice folks to point out some potential hazards and I do appreciate it!

I belong to several other forum type groups in fields whereby I can offer subject matter expertise but here I am a green pea! so thanks upfront for he genuine help. Hopefully I will be able to return the gesture regarding RV's to some Newbie down the road.

    Really I am at the tail end of what I have decided as follows;

#1 Foretravel 07 and up 40'+ with suitable floor plan minus shiny interior and dated decor (hard to find)

#2 Nearly new Entegra Aspire DEQ as we really like the floor plan, decor, power train and almost Newmar construction by association

#3 an older until as listed here, saving cash expenditure, most recalls and mods complete by previous owner, allowing entry into RV'ing to learn true likes and needs out of a coach, relative decent resale and hey this one has a toad already attached. We would be willing to sacrifice layout and amenities for learning curve and savings.

So yes, we will probably venture down to see this gent with the 2009 Dutch Star and if it is good...make a solid offer.

  • Stephen, it really looks like a nice unit. You never know, make them an offer and see what they say. Honda's really hold their value so you could probably buy it as a package deal and make money reselling the Honda (just a thought).

In fact, it looks just like our Honda, we have black leather and I think they mentioned grey leather.

    Safe travels,
    MM.
  • The Dutch Star took the place of the Mountain Aire in Newmar's line up when they moved the Mountain Aire up to the luxury coach level, these are premium built, using the best equipment at a time when coach building was at it's peak.

They are well supported, drive beautifully, and will tow about anything you can hook to it.

$170,k is about normal for the year and equipment.

If the tires are OEM, plan on replacing them.

We own a Newmar, and can call the factory and buy any part on our coach. 15 years after it was made.

    We love our NEWMAR.
  • As you may know from my previous posts I have been slowly finding I was truly interested luxury coaches in the 200-250k range. A friend of mine sent this to me thinking I may be interested and at first I wasn't but having looked at it...I think it would be a fine unit for our first one. It is missing some of the things that I would really like in a DP but I can't expect to have it all.

    Mr. Mark,

I have only just begun to look at potential toads and the crv would suit is just fine. Small, light, awd and and dependable honda.

I did speak withy he owner and they didn't use it very much. They are making some lifestyle changes now so won't be using. He did give me the background and has all the other related info. Are there any specific questions other than generator hours I should ask?

Just wondering if I should even consider this unit I guess. I was thinking I would be comfortable around the 160 range.
  • Stephen, what will you be towing? You may already have a perfectly good vehicle but the Honda makes a nice toad (3,500 lbs, seats five, good rear storage, good gas mileage, etc.).

    Good luck,
    MM.
  • Unless you have time to see in person or ask a lot of the right questions, maybe not. The seller writes a long story about what the coach cost new and the various options but not a word concerning how the coach has been maintained. Plus everything listed came from the builder's label which required little effort to copy. Same with the Honda.

I really don't think the seller knows what they are selling considering they didn't list generator hours, tire age, maintenance records,,,.
  • Check NADA. Use the lowest number and do not add any options. That's what a dealer would do.
  • No idea if it's a good deal but it sure is a nice looking RV.

    Best of luck!
