HDMI splitter not always splitting...

New installation of the splitter , started off ok, TV up front TV in bedroom, last night lost signal from one HDMI outlet, front TV ok, rear Tv sound only. Satellite strength

was ok. Signal was coming through high voltage power lines I was parked near. Would that have a negative effect on the signal?
  • I am using the same splitter they use in the big box stores to run multiple tv's. It can split 4 times. When it powers up the plugs being used would normally light up unless it does

not get a signal. The rear TV is brand new Samsung. The TV in rear works but not always. When it isn't working the splitter output light for that wire is not lit. Always power to

the front tv. The splitter was recommended by another poster. I had another post going about what I was faced with, maybe i should have stuck with that posting. Basically i ran

50ft. of HDMI and replaced rear TV because the TV was not HDMI compatible and the DT receiver only had HDMI outputs.
  • They are not..
OP - is this an active or passive splitter?
HDMI can get persnickety when you start playing with splitters, especially passive splitters. Often there is not enough level from the source and through the splitter to drive two destinations. That plus screwing up the HDCP decoders can cause all sorts of problems. If you are not running a passive splitter, get one.

Additionally you may experience issues with the HDCP decoder that will shut video off of the source (sat Rx) if when it calls down the HDMI cable to see what's on the other end, it gets a response from both TV's. When that happens to me it's because I power up the coach and both TV's are on. Always power up things with one TV, not two to avoid problems. And yes, this shutdown will still pass audio
  • I'd suspect the rear TV is at fault if it is only giving you audio. I believe the audio and video data are transmitted on the same bus.
