Help needed ASAP for my Damon Challanger

Which brakes are burning? The drum brakes on the end of your transmission(auto park brakes) or your service brakes? Is your auto park light on the dash on? It could be either set of brakes from your description. Drive it for a short distance and feel the brake drum on the end of the tranny to see if it is hot. If it is check to see if fluid(red trans fluid) is leaking from the green switch inside the black auto park box. If so you can change it yourself, the switch is about $50 from any Chevy dealer.

I'm afraid to drive it as I don't want to do any further damage possibly.

When I start the unit and put it in gear I can hear a mechanism that sounds like at the bottom of the steering column running.

Need to figure out how to disconnect the power supply. I don't have the proper manual to know if it's a fuse or reply to pull.

As Gjac said, sounds like the rotten green switch is bad and leaked fluid. On my 98 MH the tank was located just behind the entry steps. If the fluid is low you can add some and see if that will release the brake. Do a search on auto park and rotten green switch. It is not difficult to replace if that is your issue.

I believe the noise you are hearing is the Auto Park Brake engaging or disengaging from the brake drum on the end of your transmission.
There is a way to manually disconnect the Auto Park Brake but once that is done, your coach will roll on a slopped surface unless you use wheel chocks. This can create a dangerous situation.

There is a clevis pin that can be removed to unlock the auto park brake from the driveshaft. But as stated above the coach will roll no matter what gear it is in even park. You would have to remember to chalk the wheels every time you stop.

Let us know how you make out. IMO it is easier to just replace the green switch and safer than to disable the auto park break. I have gotten stuck several times on the road and now carry a spare green and gray switch just in case. Good luck to you.
