Help with Jayco Factory

I just purchased a 2015 Precept 31, with 9000 miles, Great looking MH. On closely checking it out I found the factory left out 8 fasteners that hold the storage bins to the MH body. The bins were pulling away from the body. Because the first owner didn't catch it, the Jayco factory people said, not there concern. Maybe I can get a friend to help me fix it. I was disappointing that a manufacturing workmanship defect would not be taken care of on a MH less than 2 years old.
How can I persuade the Jayco factory to do the right thing.

  • Have you reached out to Jayco because I can tell you that I have had nothing but superb relations with them although I was the original owner..A friend of mine purchased used from a dealer a 2016 Entegra and they did transfer over the remainder of the 2 year warranty and his issues are handled no problem until the warranty expires. Perhaps this dealer has to do some kind of paperwork or a cost to transfer the warranty over and then your issues can be handled..although I do believe every word that Doug types because he does know and perhaps Jayco products are handled way differently than Entegra. Just guessing of course.
  • Write to Motorhome magazine to their Hot Line column. They resolve issues with manufactors. As far as quality service, Bob Tiffin has set the industry standard. Thor has the worst rep and Forest River is not far behind. I am also curious how you compare a 5th wheel or TT to a motorhome? These are totally different products and cost difference is huge. In my estimation, it was a defect from the factory and should be fixed at the factory. You could also contact the Federal Highway Transportation Board as this is a SAFETY issue.
  • To the OP: you will probably save yourself a lot of aggravation if you just fix it yourself. It doesn't sound like an expensive repair using proprietary parts.

To Mr. Harold Fairbanks II: your commentary was funny but not very accurate. As an example, Thor owns Airstream who probably set the standard for customer service.
  • Can you just have them sell/give you the 8 fasteners, and fix it yourself? Or if need be, buy the fasteners at the hardware store? That's what I'd do. Good luck.
  • It may be a toss up on the customer service but I had better luck with my Thor products quality wise. Can't really comment on their customer service as I never really needed it. I did get excellent communication from Aerolite/Dutchmen one upon a time, then they rolled it into the Keystone division and I have heard it now exists in name only LOL. Never needed Keystone as our 2013 was about as flawless as they come, should of kept it but I enjoy giving myself the iron poker I guess.

I can however tell you that Forest River customer service, namely Rockwood, are pros at using the ebola/mad cow encrusted flaming jagged iron poker on your lubeless chute also, bifurcations, hot spikes, and rust non withstanding. It must be an Indiana thing LOL.
  • You don't have any standing with Jayco. You are not the original owner and starting a few years ago, the Jayco warranty(2 years) was not transferred to the 2nd or 3rd owners. You can right a letter to Jayco, and state what you need done. BUT, you will need a Jayco dealer to verify the repair needed. Jayco will NOT do any Goodwill repair without a Jayco Service Center verifying what is needed. Jayco will NOT do this under warranty. They will do it under "Goodwill". BE NICE. If you take a tone with Jayco, they will shut you down for sure. Doug
