Holliday Rambler Admiral

Are holliday rambler admiral se motorhomes good? I'm looking at a 2005 with 19000 miles. GM 8.1 workhorse 37ft. Thanks for any advise and knowledge on them.
  • whats the chasis GVWR, And the wheel base? If its a 22,000 lb chasis see if you can find out what the unloaded weight is
  • Holiday Rambler /Monaco made great MHs in around those years. Yours would be on a Workhorse chassis.

There was a recall on the Bosch brake calipers that you will need to make sure has been done. The Workhorse website formerly had a link to check serial numbers. Appears not to be active anymore.
  • The brake recall was years ago so it would be unusual for the owner at that time not to have taken the coach in to get all new brakes.
The engine and Allison transmission on the WH chassis are basically bulletproof. I'm pushing 90,000 on my 8.1L Allison combo and still do not have to add any oil between 5000 mile oil changes.
With the 2005 model you have the double overdrive Allison so mountain climbing will be no problem, even if you are towing.
As mentioned, it is always a good idea to have any coach weighed to see if the chassis gross weight will allow you to take everything with you on a trip.
At this point you r down to a price and condition decision. The coach should have had the tires all changed since they would be 10-11 years old. The TV may still be the older, very heavy, analog TV that you may want to change. Check for any leaks and try to obtain service records to show that it has been maintained for those 19,000 miles.

At 37ft. would this be on a W24 chassis and if so, wasn't affected by the recall, as it didn't have the same brakes. Not sure when the W24 was introduced, but some say later on and towards the last part of WH production.
  • I have a 38' on a W22 chassis and I am not overloaded when even water tanks are full. My wife would take a lot of everything extra along. I would have 1 tool box and 4-5 camera bags. We were at 21,800 FULLY loaded and that was the exceptional trip. Usually we are closer to 20K. I have had mine 10 years and will miss it when I sell it. I am even considering keeping it for when I want a little more than my 19' Roadtrek.
  • We had a 2004 Holiday Rambler 34 SBA. Traded up to a 36 Ft. Allegro Open Road. We were at the point that the material was starting to wear out and we considered having a major renovation and instead opted for a new RV. My other problem with the Holiday Rambler is that I ended up replacing most of the screws in the drawers and cabinets. Larger screws should have been used at the factory.

Our chassis A/C unit went out twice....once under warranty....

Loved the Chevy 8.1 and Allison tranny combo.
  • We had a 2005 Admiral 34SBD on the WH W22 chassis. except for some slight tail wag it was rock solid. Fully loaded for a months vacation we still had 800lbs or so left for carry cap. 8 mpg if you drove conservatively towing a Honda CR-V
