What's the best way to secure items in the pass through storage area? I don't want items like tables or ladders sliding around while turning or stopping. I don't enough access to put down straps since the pass through is only about 12" high. I considered a piece of carpet remnant but I don't think would prevent much movement.....only cushioning items.

Stuff it full :B Most folks carry too much stuff.We have the same issue.....not enough stuff in pass thru compartment.So I place heavy items forward then chairs etc behind the heavy items then a couple of bungee cords to strap things together.My pass thru compartment is carpeted with indoor/outdoor carpet and everything stays put.

We have a folding table in a compartment that is only about 12" high. I screwed strips of wood to the bottom of the compartment to keep it in place. If you have a 90* angle driver you don't need much height to screw the wood in place.

Stuff the empty areas with cardboard boxes to limit the movement of the stored items.

For the smaller items we use storage bins. For the larger items the storage area is packed so tightly nothing would move, unless there was a tragedy.

How do you secure items in pass through storage?

We don't have a problem with things moving around as we have carpeted bays. Also, I have them fairly full which helps keep things in place. I bought plastic tubs with lids at Costco (milky-white with black hinged lids). These tubs work great as I can stack two on top of each other.

I guess the OP could use empty cardboard boxes to keep things in place if you can't tie down the ladder, etc.

Get the right configuration of plastic tubs/totes to fill the space. Doesn't matter if they are full or empty. We fill as needed for the length of the trip or the season.

DW says I'm moving her stuff out of the basement. We keep everything, but chairs in plastic containers or tubs. No I'm not moving her stuff out, I'm just consolidating what's there. After 8 years fulltime, if it hasn't came out to be used...it's gone. ;) I didn't mean it honey. :C :) :D :B

Too much room in storage that I have to worry about items moving around. Now, there's a problem that I wish I had! No sooner do I make extra room, DW finds something else to fill it with! (Although, truth be told, it's mostly MY stuff in the basement storage! :R )

I bought a pack of the interlocking rubber floor pieces. It fit perfectly, it is heavy duty and works great. You can get it at costco or any hardware store.

I use black plastic tubs with yellow lids from Home Depot. Stack them two high.
All in the back of my pickup. Carpet on the floor.

Bamcote's suggestion of cardboard boxes works well. I use the plastic milk crates, I can grab those better. Those are the crates that usually say "Stolen From xxx Dairy" on the side. :) For smaller items, those 3-gallon plastic kitty litter containers work well.
