- rgatijnet1Explorer IIIOn a typical multi-month Western trip for us, we usually put more mileage on the toad than we do on the motor home. We see many sights that are just inaccessible to motor homes and the convenience of having our own alternative form of transportation is priceless. We travel often to places where rental cars are just not available. It is also nice to have the toad as transportation if the motor home does experience a problem where you have to go get a repair part.
- doxiemom11Explorer IIWe started full-timing with no toad. We did have a motorcycle we had hauled on a utility trailer behind the motorhome. Our first camp host position was 18 miles from the closest store, so grocery shopping was a challenge. We went 1 year with no vehicle. We purchased a used Jeep which I drive as DH still has his motorcycles and trailer. During that first year I had discovered I do not like riding in the motorhome. Feel like I'm going in the ditch/field, ravine all the time. So I drive it. In 4 years I still don't think we have spent in fuel what it would cost us to get it set up for the towing. We are usually stationary after a month or so of travel spring and fall. It is a pain not to have a car unless you are just a weekend camper.
- K_CharlesExplorerWhen we brought the A home the wife said she didn't want to go too far without a car. We had a pickup an excursion and a car and none would tow 4 down or on a dolly. The next day I went off and came back with a an Elantra. I think it took about 4 days to get the hitch and put it on.
- EffyExplorer IIWe bought a dolly when we got our MH and towed our car home from the MH dealership. So for us, we already had it. We have since sold the civic and have a CRV we set up for 4 down. MUCH MUCH easier.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIIWe were planning to haul our then 2002 4WD RAV4 on a trailer when we bought our first Class A, but then we "discovered" the Remco transmission pump folks, and have towed our RAV4's 4-down ever since.

RVs, Tows, and Toads for Sale - rockhillmanorExplorer II
How long did you have a Class A motorhome before you bought a tow vehicle. I just bought a Class A but don't have a car that I can tow without a dolly. I'm not going to tow a vehicle on a dolly.
I couldn't tow my car 4 down either. I really thought I didn't need no stinkin toad.
Well 2 snowbird trips without a toad finally convinced me that I needed one. Bought the toad 2 days before closing on my house to go full time.
I wasn't really sure about a toad so I just looked around for an inexpensive small car that could be towed 4 down. so if I didn't like it I had not invested a lot of money into it. that Toad worked out so well I ended up just keeping it.
I think what a lot of people have stuck in their minds is they have to buy a new car to use as a toad.
If you go to the Escappees classified forum there are always a ton of used Toads for sale ALL equipped to go four down. All ready to just hook up and go. And usually the tow bar is either included or for an added price. The sellers are all RV'ers. - dahkotaExplorerWe only bought a MH so we could pull a Jeep wrangler. We tried offloading in our f250 but it really wasn't the same.
