How long to build Class A Gas motorhome

Hey dougrainer, I’m curious about something. When he ordered the motorhome did he get an invoice with all the pricing? And even more critical, did the invoice contain a VIN number?

My invoice shows all those things and I don’t know how, regardless of how things have gone up, they could increase my price? Not when my coach is VIN specific.

It only takes 2 weeks to build a Class A or C including full paint. BUT, RV's are in short supply with thousands of orders. Couple that with material shortages AND Covid 19 is a factor as a lot of the very skilled workers have not returned as they went on to other jobs. My neighbor ordered his Class C Platinum 1 year ago and took delivery 11 months after order. The NORMAL build time with supplies in stock is about 3 to 4 months from the date you place the order. This has been the case for over 30 years. Doug

PS it only takes a few days to build a Automobile. The rest of the time is the order process to get it into the Plant which is 60 to 90 days

A coworker ordered a Jayco class A back in September and was first told early December. Then January, February, March etc. It finally arrived at the dealer last week, with a build date of April 22.

He went and had the PDI and when he sat down for the final paperwork, found out that the price had increased a little over $6K from his quote / paperwork signed when ordered last fall. He asked if they would honor the original price quoted and the answer was no, take it or leave it. He left it.

Prices are rising rapidly due to material shortages and material prices. Plywood prices have increased as much as 425% in less than 3 months and are not expected to ease until the 3rd quarter of 2022. I have heard that by mid summer steel, aluminum, and rubber will all be in short supply with prices for all going through the roof.

The best question should be is not how Long it will take to build...But was it build with quality workman ship or just done to make a sale?

It's not how long it takes to build - it's how long it takes b4 they start the build.

Hi Rick, I’m five months out going on six and it’s getting to crunch time. We were told mid May but now mid June. If it goes beyond that I may have to select a different coach. Meaning one sitting on the lot. And from what I see there isn’t much of them either. Oh well.

Factory ordered autos and trucks pre-pandemic took longer than 60 days.

While our experience dates back to 2004, we ordered our Class A gasser on May 5 and picked it up the second week in July. HOWEVER, within that time was the model-year change over which added an additional delay of several weeks or so, ours ended up being a 2005 model. We did order a model with full-body paint & upgraded cabinets (which are REALLY nice...REAL wood cabinets! LOL), so there was some customization required.

THAT said, I know that due to COVID, supply chains are fouled up in many industries, so what is considered "normal" might be extended weeks or months as industries need to wait for their suppliers to play catch-up. When we bought ours, for some reason the propane ovens installed in the rigs were in short supply, and we ended up opting for a rig without one...though originally we wanted one. The convection/microwave is almost as good, but still. Sometimes things happen which messes up potential delivery times. With COVID, that seems to be fairly common at this point in time.
