How Long To Get A Tire Replaced Via Roadside Service

We had 2 blowouts about a week and a half apart recently. We have Coachnet road service and the first time they were there within an hour and a half and changed the tire right away (we had a spare.) The second time we called around 12:30 and they promised to have someone there before 2:00. We did not have a spare, having blown one already and the company who was coming to do the work called and asked what kind of tire we wanted. I was nervous about the tires we had (6 year old G670's) so I asked if he had 4 new XRV's in my size and he did. They came and changed the blown one nad I followed him back to the shop where they changed the other three. We were back on the road by 4:00. The price was very good. Coachnet paid for the service call and the first install. Thank you to Coachnet and thanks to Coastal Tire for fast fantastic service.

I have Good Sam Roadside. I still carry 2 spares. I also have a 12 ton air operated hydraulic Jack (OH what a nice piece of equipment) and an Impact wrench. Do I ever intend to change a flat myself? Heck NO! But I am prepared to do it easily if I have to.

I once had to wait 3 days in Scranton PA for a tire to be sent from North Carolina for my old Winnebago.
Had a blowout 4 weeks ago on my Fleetwood and the service that was dispatched to me had me on my way in 45 minutes.
The benefit of having a spare or two is that if I am at the side of the road broke down for an hour or two my spouse can handle that without getting upset.
If we are stuck for prolonged period, such as a day then the saying "if MAMA ain't happy then no one is happy" kicks in.

Had an almost comical experience with CoachNet about 3 weeks ago. Had our inner dual on the curb-side blow out about a mile from the campground we were heading for - other than the tire sidewall having a softball-sized hole in it there was absolutely no damage to the coach. We got to the campground and set up, then called CoachNet. We gave them all the information and they said they'd call us back when they had a truck with a tire on the way. About 5 minutes later they called back and said a truck would be showing up in 45 minutes. Well, about 30 minutes later the truck driver called and said he would be there in 30 minutes and we said fine.

At exactly 45 minutes CoachNet called back and wanted to know if the truck was there yet. We said that he had called and was now about 10 minutes away, and we were fine with that. She responded with "That is unacceptable! I'll call him back and light a fire under him!"

When the driver showed up - on time according to HIS estimate - he apologized for being late. I told him not to worry; we had no problem with his arrival time because we know how hard it can be to find the right replacement tire sometimes.

Bottom line: when CoachNet says someone will be there in 45 minutes they get VERY upset when that 45 minutes turns into 55 minutes!

In fact, I do have torque wrench that's a 150-600 lb. wrench. And, as far as carrying a bottle jack that will lift "the axle of a 25,000 lb. motorhome". Well, no disrespect here but, first, no one would lift the entire axle, their only going to lift one side. Second, you're only going lift one corner of a 25,000 lb. motorhome. And, third, if conditions permit, one can assist the lifting with the jacks of the coach.

I've done that way more than I can count. You don't have to lift the entire front, rear, or both off the ground, just lift it some, to take the additional weight off the axle that you're working on. Then, the bottle jack only has to lift the weight of the end of the axle.

And, as far as a bottle jack that will lift any corner of our Diesel Itasca 36GD rig, yep, got that too. It's a low profile, about 9 or so inches in height, 20 ton bottle jack.

Now, I will admit, actually "changing" the tire would be a pain in the a$$ and, while I've got the ability to do it and, a couple of the right tire irons would do the trick, I'm not planning on it. I only carry the equipment mentioned for "what if" situations.

I'm sure you have the proper equipment. But, I was asking muelldawg. His profile says he has a 2010 Ford F150 pulling a 16.5 foot Jayco travel trailer. I doubt he has 22.5 tires on the pickup or the travel trailer. Wondered why he was responding to this discussion.

In 08 waited 4 hours outside Deming, NM. Had to bring the tire guy from Las Cruses, NM for our Georgie Boy. I had a spare. In June of this year I waited over 4 hours outside of Truth or Consequences,NM. AAA finally found a tire guy from a construction company to bring a tire and change it on our Monoco Dynasty. Spent the night at Wal Mart in Las Cruses and had all new tires installed from Big O.

Yes. (Impact with a torque stick.)
Yes, I have 10-ton bottle jack. (Though many A's can use the levelers.)

But you don't understand. Put the jack under the end of one axle and lift just enough to take the pressure off the tire. Usually only 3/4". Once the tire is barely clear of the ground, it can be slid off the spindle or hub. The dynamics of the chassis are changed very little. You do more frame twisting just driving down the road.

Well guys, I sitting in Teslin, Yukon Territory, Canada, with 2 spares. Could be stuck here for days if I needed a tire. Assess your travels, balance you budget against your time and do what is right for you. No crying if you guess wrong.
