How much towing capacity for 454 Chevy Class A motorhome?

Hello, I'm thinking of buying a Class A Rexair with a 454 Chevy engine. Do you think I can safely tow my 1990 Toyota truck (3430 scale weight on title) with this or similar rig? My truck was towed before and has a huge iron bracket that sticks out from under the front bumper that I can see used to have a tow bar on it. Anybody had any luck with this type engine on a Class a 31' motorhome before? Any advice would be so much appreciated. Thanks, W

I had a 86 allegro 32' /454 carb that was a beast....it pulled wolf creek and raton pass in 3rd gear..../30 MPH tho....no toad. 400 trans...4:86 rear.....but if you shifted to 2nd for more revs you were lost.....unbelievable torque at low speed.....
Now....I would not feel good about pulling a 3500 lb truck up steep grades.....I'd disconnect and have DW drive it....
But try it and see what happens...maybe yours will feel good doing it.

Torque at low speed? Does that mean no power or what?

Disconnect and have DW (?) drive it. What's DW?

I won't be able to try it until I actually buy it so I'm shying off a bit. We'll see though.

    Thanks,

    W

On our 1993 32' Pursuit MH on a 1992 P30 Chassis hitch is rated at 500 tongue weight with max load of 3500 so it would be at our high limit. If the transmission has over drive it might would be best not to engage it. These transmissions are good but they were designed for up to one ton rated trucks.

THANKS for your answer above. I'll check the tonge if it says anything.
Engage it? Meaning don't use it? One ton good to know.

    THANKS

The first thing I did after I bought it was put a new performance timing gear set in it so my timing could be straight up instead of retarded on the keyways.New performance 750 Edlebrock AFB carb , dual exhaust , removed all the AIR system......really was a power house....had about 34000 mi.

Just make sure you have a 7-10K hitch properly installed+ mounted solid to main frame and you will be good to go.I pulled 12K with a old 1976 27 A with 454 no problem at all
