How to Glue Sliding Window Handles??

My '87 Falcon has three sliding windows with good screens, but the metal handles don't stay attached to the glass when I open the windows. It looks like they were once glued - there's some residue on the handles and the glass. Are the handles supposed to be permanently attached to the glass? If yes, what kind of glue should I use to re-attach them?

  • Loctite makes a specific product for gluing metal to glass. Sorry I can't remember which one. It is what I used to glue the handles back onto our Falcon windows.
  • For the handle i would go to an auto parts store and get the glue for attaching a rear view mirror to the windshield.

I don't think there was any rubber piece in between the handle and glass, but there are a lot of things that have dry-rotted, so that could be another!
I'm having a HORRIBLE problem with the large window leaking - not around the outwide rim, but through the bottom "track". I replaced the rubber gasket because the old one was so hard and dry-rotted that the window wouldn't open, but now it leaks with the slightest bit of rain.
Have you had this problem before?

Mine's a 2011 model, so no rubbber rot yet.
    no leaks.

  • Mine were coming off also, but there were some rubber pieces between the glass and handle. HOw about yours?

I used Clear Silicone on mine.
Makes them slippery so you can get them on easier, then holds well when dried.

If you use glue, make sure it isn't fast drying or sticky so you can get the handles on before the glue takes hold.
