How to make up corner beds

I'm not sure what the problem is. Our current unit has a corner bed and I love it. We make our beds (both at home and on the road) in what I believe is called the European style. We use a fitted sheet on the bottom, and then a regular light bed sheet and down filled Duvet comforter on the top of that. Whichever one of us makes the bed in the morning simply straightens the Duvet out and folds the excess underneath so it is not hanging down. Takes all of 20 seconds and is very comfortable and inviting.

To make it with just-cleaned sheets, I start with the head of the bed...or the foot. Get it all fitted and straight, throw the excess forward and crawl along pushing it along and tucking in. If I start at the head, same thing but in reverse.

Yes, we'd love a walk around bed, but we like the short length of our camper and the only time making the bed is a problem is when changing sheets or in the a.m.

If this is just not worth the trouble, use the sleeping bags...or buy a camper with a walk around bed. We're coming from tent camping, so it doesn't take much for us to feel pampered;)

I've wondered about pulling the mattress out, placing it on a clean table, adding a foam topper, putting it in a cover, and tossing it back on. The corner may look ugly, but it would be covered.

We have a corner bed. I wouldn't want to make it every week, but once a season isn't that big of deal in trade for the length/floor plan we wanted. Here's what I do using a full size flannel sheet set:

-Fully make bed at beginning of season (or some frequency that works for you). This involves putting a mattress cover over the memory foam topper+mattress and then a flannel fitted sheet over the mattress cover. It takes some wrestling, and bending up of the trapped mattress corners.

-Use the flannel top sheet as your bottom sheet. Just spread it on the bed and tuck it between the mattress and the wall (or under wherever you can reach - this is much easier than getting the fitted sheet on). Between the flannel-on-flannel and being tucked in, the sheet functions just like a normal bottom sheet; we don't have problems with it coming off.

-A spare flat sheet we had at home is now our top sheet, then add blankets as usual.

After each trip, it's quick and easy to strip and remake the two flat sheets and we leave the fitted sheet on the mattress until the end of the season. Haven't tried this system with non-flannel sheets, so I don't know if the tucked-in sheet would slip off in that case or not, but maybe worth a try even if you're not a flannel sheet person.

Permit me a little misdemeanor thread drift.....

While I don't see what the big deal is in making up a corner bed I am surprised that after all of these posts complaining about it no one has brought up making the cabover bed. In contrast the cabover bunk is waaaay harder to reach and you have a lot less overhead to work with. Ours is huge, 8' X 57", so to keep it simple we leave a nice full queen size comforter spread out and just unroll a couple of sleeping bags, either used as singles or zipped together for a double as needed.

Most of the time we use the cabover as a TV or reading lounge and on rare occasions have guest(s), usually just one. We have several throw pillows along with two queen size bed pillows which makes for very comfortable lounging. I wonder what folks who use this bunk as their primary bed do. Any tips, secrets or general advice?

Our bed has complete walls on two sides and about 14" of wall on the other two sides. There is only one corner I can't reach standing on the floor. I crawl over to the far corner with the bottom sheet and tuck that corner snugly under the mattress. Then I get off and tuck in the two corners that just have the shorter walls, pulling the sheet tight. Finally I tuck in the completely open corner. We pretty much just toss the top sheet and blanket over the bed and lightly tuck in the bottom, which has the open corner and one short-wall corner. It's a nuisance but it works.

When we got the MH, I tried to find those "bed-in-a-box" things. The original company had gone out of business, and reviews of the new one were that it wasn't nearly as nice, so I just went the normal sheet route and can live with it.

We had one in our first TT. That is one of the reasons we sold it. Couldn't stand it and DW got very frustrated with it. Our island queen is much better.

We have one in our trailer and one in our motorhome and use house sheets. Yes, they are a pain to make but we deal with it...because we like the smaller units.
Use a sleeping bag if it bothers you.
