How to make up corner beds

My bride changes the bedding in our rear corner queen (24' C), about once a week when we are on the road. It takes her all of about 5 minutes, tops. Fitted sheet on the bottom holds itself in place nicely, center and spread the top sheet and tuck it in, add a blanket or two as needed (we never bother with a bedspread) and you are done. Why is this so difficult for so many? :h

I guess since we were boaters for 35+ years it just does not occur to us that this should be a problem. We can both get in or out of bed without disturbing the other and we really did not want anything bigger than our 24 footer.

I think a lot of folks here are searching for a solution for which there is no known problem (the government does this a lot). :B

Why make up a corner bed at all?

Put a colored coordinated fitted mattress cover (that matches the rest of the RV's interior material) made of heavy material on the mattress and leave it on permanently.

Buy a 2 inch foam topper for the mattress. Use a fitted cotton cover for the foam that zips onto the foam along three sides. Easily unzip and wash this foam cover as often as you want. Sleep directly on this cotton foam cover with sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, etc., on top of the the cotton foam cover and on top of you.

A piece of cake ... this is how we "make up" our RV's corner bed! It's sure nice having a full sized bed always available to flop down on in just a small RV.

We make up the bead with fitted bottom sheets and top sheet and spread. Get on the bed tuck the sheet on the sides by the pillows. Get off the bed and tuck the sheet at the foot of the bed. Back on the bed tuck the spread by the pillows back off the bed tuck the spread at the foot of the bed. We used to do a blanket as well but found a comfortable quilted spread that we like.

Never had a "C" but did have a corner bed in our Dutchmen Sport. .... well ... that's one of 3 reasons why we sold it! Can't make the stupid bed up right, and if the inside person has to get out, they have to crawl over the outside person. Both people have to be contortionists in order to make the bed and to sleep in the dumb thing! NEVER AGAIN!

Second reason we sold was because it had no oven, and third was a couch on the front. Sitting on the couch your neck and head was always pushed forward.... very uncomfortable.

Corner bed NO NEVER AGAIN! YOU'LL BE SORRY!

We have the same rig as Bill. DW makes the bed. Basically like Bill said. Toss the bedding roughly into position. Climb on the bed and tuck it into place. As for the daily straightening, it's the same thing. Toss the stuff towards the pillows, climb up, do one side, then the other, climb down. After a few tries you figure it out. What I figured out was to let DW do it. :) :)

She's so happy to have a fixed, dedicated bed that she does not complain at all about making it. Sure it's more hassle than a walk around, but in the grand scheme of things, it's pretty minor.

Like many of you said, a walk-around is best. But, length is an issue for me and my wife.

We do the hands and knees trick to do the head end of the fitted bottom sheet, and have enough access to the foot corner on the outside wall to do that standing on the floor. The last corner inside the unit is easy. Neither my wife or I like tucked in covers, so we just throw on the top sheet with as many blankets/comforters as the temperature requires.

Yes, it could be less of a challenge, but I bought this floorplan on purpose for its relatively short 24'-6" length and lighter curb weight. The old 29'er with the island queen with the head end between two nightstands and shirt closets wasn't as easy to make as one would think either.

We have been Class B people for a very long time so are used to making do with small spaces and rearranging. Now, we have the Phoneix Cruiser
and love it. We knew the corner bed was going to be a bit of a challenge, but we just used our "B" training and did as a couple of others have suggested: just use a couple of LL Bean sleeping bags or sleep sacks. Little hassle except I sleep on the right side next to the windows and the "middle of the night" trip is interesting. Maybe if our 55 pound border collie didn't pop up on the foot of the bed it might be easier, but camping to us is an experience and we don't want or expect it to be like home. That is why we mostly boondock. If it was jsut like home, we would quit.

I use queen size sheets on mine and make it up like a bed. Works for me and I don't have to do as many push-ups for the day. Would a walk around be easier? Sure! Do I mind? Nope!

Here's a link to the shortest Class C (24'11") I've seen with a walk around queen size bed. My wife and I looked at one a couple of weeks ago - very nice. It's a new model, so you won't likely find a used one. I don't believe anyone other than Nexus has this floor plan yet.
