HWH Slide-outs did not work?

We just got back from a week-end Super Bowl trip with friends and family (Yea Seahawks) where we used the slide-outs, including while unpacking afterwards at home. My wife went out to the MH and tried the bedroom slide-out for one more thing, and it didn't work. I tired both slide-outs later, and neither worked.

Today after work I tried both slide-outs and neither worked, I then re-cycled the levelers, which worked. I then tried the slide-outs, and they now worked. The temperature is ~30F, can that be an issue. All circuit breakers seemed fine.

Any suggestions?

The jacks and slides use the same pump and EACH slide by itself will activate the pump to operate the slide. Since it works when you did the jacks and THEN the slides work, you had either a loose connection at the pump assbly, or the pump motor solenoid was sticking. ALWAYS, when you have HWH slides and jacks and ONE system does not operate (slides or jacks) operate the jacks and slides to see if the motor runs. That helps you find out where the problem is. Cold will not affect the slide/jack pump from activating. Cold will affect how fast and smooth the systems operate. I would check the battery and wire connections at the HWH pump motor assbly/solenoids for tightness. Doug

Thanks Doug, you always have good information.

When I operated the levelers, the excess slope light came on, but I was on very level ground. One of the levelers did not activate, which I then forced to work manually. Everything retracted normally, but slowly. Then the slide-outs operated correctly.

I'll check and maintain the electrical connections. That makes sense.

I'll let know how that works out when I can do it without freezing fingers and toes.

    Thanks

Excess slope just means 1 or more jacks has reached its maximum extension and cannot extend anymore to level that corner. Doug

  • In our RV they have changed the hydraulic fluid out for the slides and the hwh jacks and now use 15w40 engine oil. 2008 four winds Mandalay with freightliner chassis and 400 cummins engine.
  • Ha Ha, OK Ron, my eyes aren't so good any more so it just looked like a minus sign to me. We have had a lot of below zero temps here in Iowa so I didn't think anything of it. At any rate I can tell you that on a farm implement, occasionally the hydraulics will do something like that and just cycling them in both directions will start them working. This happens most frequently if they have not been used for a time. I think they get an airlock in the system.
I wish we were in Texas, it is cool there but would feel warm to me!

  • Check the 12 volt system I had similar problem and found loose battery cables

At -30 I would guess that may have had something to do with it. They are hydraulic and the oil gets pretty stiff at that temp. There could have even been a little frost or air in the system and by running the levelers it might have loosened it up.

Sorry about my symbol (~) which suggests approximately, and was not (-) minus. That would have been really cold. Like when I spent winters in SD and at 10,000 feet in CO. We live in W WA and we have escaped winter this year (so far).

    Thanks for your reply.
