Ignition switch issue ?????

Have you checked your battery connections? First place I would look. Loose or corroded.

sounds like a bad/intermittent connection at the solenoid or starter. you have enough voltage passing thru to light things up but not enough to start the engine. check the connections and make sure they are tight and clean.

X2. Always make sure your battery terminals are clean and tight before you start to diagnose the problem.

Strange how posts about problems like this seem to come in groups.
As in the other recent thread, this can be caused by:
Intermittant.....starter, solenoid, neutral safety switch, ignition switch.....or the already mentioned bad cable connections.

Unless you just want to start throwing money at it on a wild guess, it needs to fail completely first to find the real culprit probably.

Not sure how yours is wired but mine has a solenoid in the engine bay that the ignition switch sends power through before allowing the starter solenoid to operate. I found the connection was loose on the first solenoid and caused starting problems.

Suspects: Neutral Start Switch, Overweight.

True fictional story.. Gus Wilson's Model Garage (Feature of Popular Mechanics back in teh 60's) Had an overweight customer who's car kept stalling out.. His wife said he needed to loose weight, Since she never had that problem. Gus agreed,, Sort of.

He had a key ring that would have done a class A motor home proud (Think about all those keys) the weight of all those keys had damaged the ignition switch.

NOW in this case the lock operated the switch directly.. On many vehicles today the actualy switch is operated by a push/pull cable which is pushed by a rack as and the key turns a pinion gear,, This should be immune to overweight key rings.

Still.. My Mechanics always caution me about that when I hand in my box of keys on a ring.. Till they find the additional key that's still in the ignition with nothign on it but a tape flag.

Very Interesting,I only have 4 small keys on my ring ( basement locks, door locks). They don't seem to be that heavy, but I am going to make a ring just for the ignition. You never know !!!

Thanks for the input everyone, it has given me somethings to checkout at least.

if you can find the relay have someone try to start the engine and listen for the relay to click if it does check the output terminal with a test light if the test light lights move to the solenoid mounted on the top of the starter, check with a test light on one of the small terminals, one is the trigger wire the other is ground, make sure the ground wire isn't broken then check the trigger wire with a test light if it lights and does not start the solenoid or the starter is bad, of course all of this depends on access and how flexible you are, good luck

Pull apart key ring (ignition on one half, remainder of keys on the other half), that way, when you start it and then realize you need to get in one of the outside access doors, you don't have to shut it off, just pull the other keys off and leave the ignition on.
