I think my Demco base plate came with thread lock, I did use it.
All of my Demco's came with it and I used it as instructed. - Sully2ExplorerI used self-locking nuts. Never worry about them getting loose
- Rick_JayExplorer IIwant-a-be, that's why there has to be air in the bottle when shipped/stored.
- jerseyjimExplorerNo matter what anyone says, unless you buy an exact replacement toad for the one you have now, that baseplace ain't comin' off. (Unless you have a specific reason).
Use Locktite. Red. Figure it will be permanent. - want-a-beExplorerif it cures in the absence of air would'nt it cure in the bottle?
- Rick_JayExplorer IIOP: The instructions on my Demco tow plate said to use Locktite on the fasteners and I did. Eleven years later and still no problems.

My problem with Locktight is: It drys out in the little bottle because I seldom have a need for it.
Hmmmm....interesting. I have a larger bottle (4 oz.?) of Loctite Red and have had it for very many years and it's still good. My understanding is that when storing it, there must be air kept in the container with it. If there isn't any air, it will harden up. The exact opposite you would do with most substances. Their advertising states "...it cures in the absence of air.".
Here's a handy Locktite Guide with lots of useful information.

Op, did you just finish, put it all back together, and then read the part about making sure you use locktite?
No I was just wondering. I installed a baseplate in 07 without locktite and never had a problem. You would think the manufacture would supply the locktite or use nylon locking nuts for the bolts! I understand that all the bolts do not use a nut. - hersheyExplorerMy problem with Locktight is: It drys out in the little bottle because I seldom have a need for it. I found a small packet of Locktight at AutoZone Parts that has just enough in it for a half dozen bolts. That way it stays useable and they were cheap.
