Insurance Shopping

When we bought our coach, I went to USAA for insurance. USAA doesn't write RV policies, they partner with Progressive, so that's where my coverage is. If they pass USAA's scrutiny, that's good enough for me.

On a side note, the one time we really needed Progressive on a nasty claim, they were right there and handled it smoothly and professionally.

We have been with GEICO for several years (we have priced compared a few times with StateFarm, Liberty, AAA, and couple others a few different times). GEICO has always been the lowest--- and the customer service is excellent (have used for my sons car (lol)).

I went with National General Insurance (formally GMAC). They reduce my rate if I put my unit in storage and then allow me to take it out with a phone call. I have had no claims but what contact I have had with them as been very positive in terms of customer service.

While in storage they let me take it to the dealer (reinstated full coverage for 24hrs) with no additional charges.

So, is the same thing for me to have it stored at my house or is it somehow different than storing at a facility....do you know?

if you belong to FMCA they will get you a good deal. i went with alied nationwide through them under a $1000 a year for the best coverage

I use Blue Sky RV Insurance, for the last 2 years. They beat my previous insurance that increased their rates. Try them, they are hard to beat.

I just left State Farm and went with Farm Bureau, here in Texas. Don't know if you have such up there. State Farm was getting pretty snotty with me and I was paying them $5200/yr for all my policies. They had just raised one of my policies by $400/yr because I scraped a fender in a car wash and turned it in to repair. Last straw for me! With Farm Bureau, my yearly total premium went down to $4000/yr, saving $1200/yr, and I have more coverage, better deductibles.

Better watch State Farm if you switch. They are supposed to backdate the time of cancellation to the date you obtain coverage with the new company. Instead, they used the date they received notification from the new company, a difference of 20 days, which cost me $259 in refunds. I told them I was submitting a complaint against them to the Texas state insurance board (and I was). They backed down and used the proper date.

Been with a couple companies that offers specific RV coverage. When Progressive jacked up my rates for no reason I found Blue Sky RV Insurance and I've been very happy with them for several years. Worth getting a quote from them while your at it.
