So my question to the insurance experts, what happens when the OP ( John) actually meets up with another Vehicle , who like himself has no collision insurance and they collide. Let's just say it was Johns fault. Now the other guy wants justice and what's right in their mind.

How are they both going to fare out in that scenario? Aren't all states no-fault? For John to say he got screwed, I'm not buying it. He got exactly what he gambled on, and will stand a very good chance of coming out ahead. The only thing it's going to take is time to resolve this and a search for a new home. That last sentence I truly feel for John. The rest of this scenario is normal procedure.

If you buy a motorhome for $2500 you would be almost a fool to pay for collision insurance.

Collision insurance only covers your own vehicle. If you don't have collision insurance and you hit another vehicle and it's your fault, then your liability pays for damagers. Lots of people drive without collision insurance on inexpensive cars. You think every time they get in a wreck with a brand new Mercedes they are paying out of pocket to fix the Mercedes? And no, not every state is no fault. California is not.

Not anything more and the Insurance DOES NOT have to pay him more than he paid for it OR pay MORE than $2500 for a repair as long as what he paid was not some inflated price. If he wanted to be completely "WHOLE", he should have put stated value Insurance on the RV. You cannot buy some Vehicle at a good fair price and then hope someone else ruins it and then claim a higher price than you paid for it, from their insurance company.

You guys can keep posting this and I'll keep posting that this is not a true statement. What if your parents had a $100k motorhome and they decided to sell it to you? Since you're their son they sell it to your for their payoff which is $25k. Two days after you transfer title a tree falls on it and smashed it to bits. Are you going to accept $25k on your motorhome that would cost $100k to replace? After all, that would make you whole wouldn't it?

You don't even have to reskin the trailer. Just add a nice aluminum diamond plate to both corners so they match. Leave the diamond plate shiny or paint white. Cheap and simple fix.

Yours is an old story that happens every day. You paid $2500 so we know the value. At MOST, you would not get more than that value.

That is an untrue statement on value. The value in an insurance claim is not what you paid for it, but what's it worth. Maybe the OP got a really good deal and it's really worth $5k. We don't know that. Maybe it's only worth $1k and the OP paid too much. That can happen too. The only time when original purchase price is a good indication of value, is when you purchase a brand new vehicle. That way you know exactly what the replacement cost would be.

Some thing else you should be compensated for is what the insurance industry calls "loss of use" They usually won't volunteer, to pay that, as they are hoping you don't know about it. But you are due that as well. So I would say hey, along with the property damage, I've got loss of use here as well. See what they offer on that as well

A few things;

First, that looks to be in great shape. It reminds me of our first one - we had a 1980 Itasca, we loved it. I think you have a nice little RV there.

Second, reskinning one of those is actually pretty easy. The aluminum siding won't be cheap but it's a fairly easy job to do, and goes a lot faster than you'd think. I did a complete TT Rebuild, the siding was the easiest part.

Third, you are correct, you couldn't fully straighten the dented pieces, but I'm thinking I could have them back to 80-85%, maybe better, in about 4 hours. You'll be needed a new corner trim piece for sure, they're not too hard to come up with. In the TT rebuild above I made mine out of a $20.00 aluminum angle I bought at Lowes. Including the self etching primer and paint I had under $100 in 4 four corners.

If you lived closer I'd give you $2500 for it right the way it sits. I think $2500 is a decent value on that and from what I can see in the pictures provided the damage looks pretty workable. No it won't be back to 100%, but it will be darn close. And as mentioned before, it looks to be in darn nice shape.

Nada low retail is 8,500K. Doesn't matter what you paid for it. Get a couple estimates of repair to pre-collision condition. If over 8.5K it is totaled, if not you have a repaired MH.
The main thing I see here is establishing a current value (pre-collision) as a base your claim. If you are happy with 2.5K then show them your bill of sale and an estimate of repairs at, or over, that amount. If you want a fair market value Google prices to replace your MH with a like or comparable MH and establish that as the fair market value.
It is a pretty simple formula actually. Fair market value vs. estimate of repairs equals total or repair. You can't manipulate the numbers to get the answer you want.
I realize to you it is a big deal, but to the insurance company it is another normal business day.
I am interested in the actual estimate of repairs; so far you have not directly answered except to say a lot... No total dollar amount.
Whichever way it goes good luck and I hope it is resolved quickly.
