Intermittent shower pressure

Okay we have this problem with our shower.

Only the shower. All 3 other faucets work perfectly.

When we have great water pressure our shower water comes out great and without ever touching the handle the water slows to a trickle.
The rest of the coach has great water pressure.

Also this is a new shower valve and control. The old one we replaced also had the same problem. We hoped by having a brand new shower faucet it would fix our problem.

We can fix the problem by turning off the faucet and turning it back on. Sometimes it takes many many times to do this. It’s very irritating. Some days it never happens. And again all of the other 3 sinks work great all of the time.

We have a 2012 Holiday rambler Ambasador 41 foot.

It’s also doesn’t matter if an RV Park has good or poor water pressure.

Sounds like the valve inside of the shower faucet??
  • It sounds like you have some debris in that water line coming to your shower valve.
  • If it's only the shower and a new diverter does the same as the old one it has something to do with the line feeding the shower. Trash would probably effect all the faucets. When you turn it off and back on your giving the line time to pressure up but hard to say why it wouldn't do it all the time, possibly a kinked line sometimes and not others?? If it doesn't do it all the time your going to have to narrow down the factors why.

I'm assuming you've simply replaced the shower wand end and not the pressure balance valve which would be behind the shower wall. If so, then your problem won't go away until you replace that valve...Dennis

Thanks, FarmBoy..I read that. However, to replace the control valve means getting behind the wall which is not something everyone can and/or will do. Hence, my assumption. Looking for clarification from the OP....safe travels...Dennis
  • Take the new valve off and flush the feed line. If there was debris in the water line that fed the old valve, and not flushed out, it will clog the new valve also.
  • Thank you for all the responses.

The complete valve was replaced and yup they had to remove the tv from the other side of the shower and it was a mess the shower wand head we checked inside the house and it works great if it can get water.

The fact that the old valve and the new valve are doing the same thing is frustrating.
This new valve didn’t start giving us trouble for weeks. At first it worked perfectly.

We also wondered if “something “ got into the line. Also we have 3 different filters to hopefully stop debris. The 2 bathroom sinks and kitchen sink have excellent water pressure.

We are up in Alaska all summer. Each day at shower time is an adventure.

    Thanks again
  • You can have a lot of filters in your coach but I doubt if you have one from the hot water heater to your shower valve. Scale from the hot water heater will clog your shower valve.

I hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but here goes, make sure your shower head doesn’t have the feature that shuts it down at a certain temp. When we bought our motor home this drove us nuts til we figured out it was shutting down when too hot. We liked hot showers so we had to replace the shower head.
