I had a 458 Xanax... Magnum is better than Xanax. - Norm___DebExplorerI had a 458 Xanax that went bad. Upgraded to a Magnum. No problems with Magnum. Therefore, in my experience, Magnum is better than Xanax.
- If just the charging has failed... consider just adding a converter to charge the battery.
This is why I prefer separate components.
Otherwise for a true upgrade look at the Victron Multiplus inverter. - predawnExplorer

Xantrex is not a particularly good unit and the Magnum is a great drop in replacement with excellent customer service. I replace the one on my Patriot Thunder with a PSW Magnum and was quite pleased.
Call Magnum and they can walk you through troubleshooting you existing unit and, if necessary, help you match it with a comparable Magnum.
actually Xantrex are very good top quality units in my opinion and experience. - Tom_BarbExplorer

Had my Xantrex 458 repaired 3 times by the factory rep and each time it lasted less than a week----I gave up on it after spending enough on repairs to buy a new one........
That is where I am, it quit charging again. and now as a high amperage drain on the battery pack
All the LEDs on the unit light up but saying it is charging, but it isn't. voltage at the DC out put is 0. AC in is 120 VAC, AC out is 120VAC, DC in is 14.3, but in charging mode 0 with battery at 11 VDC it puts out nothing. - ferndaleflyerExplorer IIIHad my Xantrex 458 repaired 3 times by the factory rep and each time it lasted less than a week----I gave up on it after spending enough on repairs to buy a new one........

I have two converters here,, One (Primary) is an progressive Dynamics Intella-power 9180 wit charge wizard, other than the last 2 digits, which are determined by the wire size and the size o the battery bank,, There is none better that I have been able to find.
The other, is a Xantrex Prosine 2.0 inverter (this is the back up converter), and again. a better one would be hard to find (But for different reasons) I like the Wizard a bit better so that is why it is my primary, but in truth, I'd rate them equal.. Why do I need a backup.. When on Generator I use both, and if I accidently unplug the 9180.. Well it is usually around 3am when I figure it out and if you think I'm getting dressed, going out and plugging it back in at 3 am.. Think again.
Magnum is a very good line,, Go with a True Sine Wave inverter/converter please. They simply work better. - jerseyjimExplorerAfter 13 years, my converter/charger is weak. Only putting out 12.4 amps. Bought a PARALLAX 4455 55amp unit for $209, plus $18 S&H. On the 'net. Took delivery yesterday, will wait until things warm up before install.
(MagnaTek is now Parallax) - JR45ExplorerHave you checked the batteries, they may be bad. If they are OK then I would go with the Magnum 2812 PSW. I did the switch because we installed the Samsung 197 RR. If you go that way just get a new controller all you have to do is drop 2 wires in the phone cord, the Xantrex uses 6 lines and the Magnum uses 4 lines, that way you don't need to run a new controller line. Saves some dollars on the install. Had all my work done at Kustom Coach Works in Junction City.
