King Dome replacement

I posted earlier about my 04 tradewinds with a king dome that would not fire up. All the responses were helpfull. The general opinion was if there is nothing obvious move on as the tech for the unit is old and not worth the price of repair. All that said what does the group recomend the cube, roof dish, or what. In motion is not needed for us. thanks for all in advance!

  • like everyone else winegard traveler amazon has it for 1482.00 two hours to install it was a great move for me
  • We were faced with similar problems last winter in FL. System was just too old (2002/2003 era) to be supported by current technology.

Shopped the available options and settled on the Winegard Traveler to replace the dome unit. Haggled Camping World into a price match and got a $29.00 install also. HD and local channels was a good benefit and we have since upgraded our home dish to the oval so we have the same service there.
  • Another here that replaced two failed King Domes with the Winegard Traveler. Did this 3 years ago and have had zero problems since. Only once have I had trouble getting a signal and that was because I was totally blocked on all sides by tall trees. Moved to another site where I had a small but adequate window to the sky and resolved the issue. Added bonus is the HD I now get.
  • RF Mogul is the best of the automatic, roof mounted. The engineers that designed it are the X Motosat guys
  • I replaced my King Dome with a HD Winegard traveler auto aiming dish. My King Dome only lasted about three years before it was done and I spent two years going back and forth with the factory and messing with it off and on before I gave up on it. I was told they basically had a huge number of problems with them.

I considered one of the portable dishes like the cube, but I figured they were more trouble than they were worth. And it all the time I've camped I've never been blocked out by a tree. I found when I pull into a campsite with trees, the first thing I do is turn the dish on and see if it can find the satellites. If it has trouble then I can move the motorhome back and forth until I get a signal. I've only had to move one time. The dish can get a signal through some trees.
  • Winegard Traveler. All auto seek, same size dish as your home dish. Seldom looses signal due to rain.
