EXACTLY what happened when I put one (temporarily) on my V10 E450 Class C motorhome. The V10 started missing immediately after I installed it and it didn't stop until I replaced the K&N with a good old paper filter like Ford recommends ... and it's never done it since using paper filters.
.... and I do know all about using expensive K&N oil treated filters - have had one on my 4X4 GMC pickup for at least 15 years. I clean it and re-oil it regularly with K&N's red-colored K&N oil.
Maybe the computer controlled V10 engine is a bit like a high spirited but finicky stallion horse - feed it and care for it just right so you can be wowed by it's performance. ;) - Ray___JuneExplorerMany of our area SCCA racers (me included) used them for years without problems, and we held more track records for our area than almost anyone else. I also used it on my '75 Dodge class 'C' which had over 125000 miles on it when I sold it. Follow the instructions, DON'T over-oil and they work beautifully.
- Home_SkilletExplorer III love them!!
Helped payed for my rv and dirt bikes.
Lots of dusted diesel engines. - Desert_CaptainExplorer III

desert captain, you been out in the sun to long. IF you follow k&n,s directions you,ll clog up you mass air flow in about 1k miles.
Your post is rude, ignorant and simply false {you must be so proud}. :S
Tens of millions K&N customers have had no problem following their instructions (these are the folks who actually read and follow them), for decades with excellent results. Not sure why you hate K&N so much but then I really don't care. I have been using K&N filters since 1998 with excellent performance, saving hundreds of dollars over the cheap (often Chinese), paper filters.
:R - timmacExplorerI have the Banks ram air intake, its designed to allow more flow and not allowing the mass air sensor to get oil on it, a K&N by itself does nothing, you need a whole new air intake system to get the benefit.
Note the Banks uses a filter same as K&N but there intake has the filter housing sitting lower than mass air sensor.

That is why they are NOT recommended.
Well, that and they allow larger dust particles into the cylinder.
Which you could expect to be hard on your engine. - TachdriverExplorer

I followed the directions to a "tee". Never had problems since 2007. - midnightsadieExplorer IIdesert captain, you been out in the sun to long. IF you follow k&n,s directions you,ll clog up you mass air flow in about 1k miles.
- old_guyExplorerwe raced cars for years and used them on our race cars. one thing to know about K&N filters is if you have a race car you tear down the engine several times a year. the MH or family car not so much. you will suck in more dirt with K&N filters than paper ones. I would not use them in my family car unless it were a rental car and or trade in the family car every year.
- mikeleblanc413ExplorerThat's good to know about the V-10. That is the engine I now have in my Winnie. Used K&N on a Dodge Dually...not good, not bad, expensive. Use WIX now and am pleased.
