Kwikee Step

One thing I would strongly advise is disconnect the power when working on it.

Make sure your body isn't underneath it when it's swung up either. I had a leg under it once and the DW decided she wanted to come out. I barely got my leg out of the way before the step swung down.

As others have said, you need to lube the joints.

Same here. I removed the motor/gearbox, disassembled, cleaned and lubed the gearbox, along with pivot points on the steps. Been fine for several years since then.

Never mind. found broken bolt took whole unit off as bolt goes thru top mounting bracket.

Thanks for all the good information. It was an easy fix, like many had suggested, I lubed all moving parts..........and presto..........it extends and retracts completely. Thanks again.

this motor is a drop in replacement for older assemblies, IF nothing else needs replacing



this will NOT mate with the newer style gear box, that goes with the newer motors

I think it should be noted, the motor itself, rarely fails
The current limiting of the control board protects the motor
What usually fails, is in the gearing or linkage
There is an aluminum housing motor available, which is an exact match for my old motor, but I needed a new gear box, so I bought a matching set, even if the mating gear had not been broken, the new gear box would not mate with my old motor
If lubing does not fix it, then remove motor and gear box and examine them before ordering any replacement

John Wayne is correct. Working on steps is a very dangerous job if you do not know what can happen. Very easy to get your hand or arm in a pinch situation if you have power running to the steps.

Ok, thanks for the info, I'll be heading over to the motorhome in a little while. I'll give it a good lube job and see how it does. If I'm still having problems I'll get some additional info. Thanks for all the help.
