- tuff_lyfExplorerRunaground:: The Horn button on the steering wheel does it control the horns under the hood and the horns on the roof? Do both sets blow at the same time?
- R2DillonExplorerThanks for the tip on the horns. Now, after 3 years, I have found that the horns were defective. It is hard to check when you are not expecting trouble, since you can't be listening outside while using them. I wonder if Fleetwood would replace them, since there seems to be an epidemic of horn problems?
- runagroundExplorer1. The Actual horns are defective they went to the plant and picked up another pair, they were defective, back to the plant for another pair (tested them before they left the plant. They worked :B
To check the horns is simple ... go on the roof put 12dc to one side of the horn ground the other wire. If you have a 12 or 14 volt rechargable battery that will be enough to power the horns for a test, or a 12v test light with two pick points one stuck in one wire to the horn the other to the other wire Same horn) then have someone honk the horn. if the light lights you have power to the horn so the horn is bad. Just so you know, properly working I could not tell the electric horn and an air horn apart.
2. Paul if the plastic you are talking about is on the lefthand side of the galley slide at the wall on the floor it was put down with double sided tape quick fix is drill a flat head screw flush with the top to hold it in place.
3. For those that get an occasional drip from overhead front cap but everthing is sealed above ... it is caused by condensation. The soundproofing material stuffed in behind the TV and speakers is not enough to stop condensation from forming on the inside of the cap so it will sometimes drip when condensation forms. On the 07s they are going to spray a heavy foam on the inside of the cap. There was no fix he could give me but they are working on it, he did assure me it was not the clearance lights or something we could seal from the top of the cap/roof.
4. Did not find out how to access service bulletins. This group is design and development of slides, chassis, chassis platforms, test track stuff. One of the projects they were working on was super riviting the frame extensions onto Workhorse/Ford chassis instead of welding. To hard to test welds, train welders, etc. they had a Class C filled with about 80 concrete parking lot bumpers, getting ready to go to the test track. They didn't have the answer to the service bulletins.
5. Best calking for TPO Roof is Dicor 502. For cap seals put a tape over the joint called Eterna Bond or something like that, sorry I forgot to write it down, he said it would last a very long time probably longer than most of us would own our motorhomes.
6. As for the spark plug wires and air flow. Workhorse specified that Fleetwood channel all the air flow to go through the cooling fans and raidator. THe "cowling" under the hood that blocks a lot of air flow was installed at Workhorse request to channel the air throught the radiator and Workhorse signed off on the design. Workhorse has not made any change request to Fleetwood advising of the problem or requesting a change in air flow design. These guys would know they are the ones that would do the design changes.
7. My livingroom slide was not sealing correctly at the top when closed, a couple of times in a wind I could see daylight between the slide and the wall seal, after working on it for 2 days they gave me 2 choices. The first was to take it to the factory and remove the slide and a bunch of other stuff so they could remove and reset the main slide bar casings. Would involve a lot of cutting and welding plus it might take as long as a month. The second choice is they would supply slide locks to pull in the top. I went with the slide locks. With the locks the fit is tight all the way around and the slide is firm in place. They said the slide being held firm would put a lot more usefull life on the slide mechanisim because it was not moving allowing undue wear or stress. Cathy and I noticed it cut down on road noise too. I'd recommend them to anyone for the livingroom slide. A big part of the problem is no weight in the slide to hold it down, a couch and free standing table is all it has inside holding it down on the floor when closed, then you have the basement storage, which I have full, underneath helping to pull the top out. Anyway long story short the slide locks did the trick and solved a couple problems.
That's about it for tonight. I learned a lot and met some friendly, interesting, people. If I forgot any ones questionplese forgive me or if you want to ask something I'll try to answer, I think I forgot more of what they explained to me than I remember.
Larry - FreshAirExplorerRunaground, I like many, I'm sure, are following your tour. Keep us informed.
If you do get a chance, ask them if they, Fleetwood, considers the Spark Plug Wire heat issue when designing the coach around the engine.
Thanks for the Link.

Pat just click the link above it will take you to Fleetwoods web site for plant tour information.
Still at Fleetwood no real information to report tonight. They have been working on the coach since 8 this morning they left at around 5 this afternoon. Will start again at 8AM. Dash bolts fixed (3 1/2 inches in from the front is a metal bar on mine half the screws were put in at an angle and missed the bar, they replaced all the screws with larger screws and added two more per side. No horn solution (tomorrow they pull the horns and wires they think it is the connector in the roof cap) Have power to horn wires behind lefthand overhead drivers speakers, no power at horns.
The engineer that designed Fleetwoods fullwall slide is working on our slide (tools in hand). The engineer and reasearch assistant that built the first 04/05 design, out of wood in 1999 (said it was modeled after the Revolution), are also physically working on our rig. I don't know what I did but one of the reasearch assistants said in 19 years this is the first personal coach he has seen in the R&D shop. One of the electrical engineers that are working on the horn solution said a customers coach in this department is very rare. The R&D Engineering Manager has just been promoted to his position maybe things are changing. He said they are not an automobile factory. Rvs are a lot different than cars and need a different type of service.
Hope this is of some help or intrest to some. Soon as I get out of here I will let you know the outcome. - FreshAirExplorer

Larry, how do you schedule a Fleetwood tour like your doing?
Pat - runagroundExplorerThis will be short been a long day.
The Factory tour went well but still some unanswered questions. However they moved us over and gave us hook ups at the reasearch and development yard about 20 miles away (Fleetwoods area 51). Last chance for me to ask questions. Fleetwoods managing engineer stopped by the motorhome and visited for quite awhile, he just left. Tomorrow we will find out why no one can properly adjust our slideout, why the Horn don't work, why the dash bolts come loose and the dash shakes, why plastic slide pads are loose and if this is good or bad. Tonight he played with the cat and we visited about his and our famlies, travels and such.
Lot of prototype and equipment testing going on hear. 32' wall slide on an Amercian coach, one test slide going in an out something like 17000 times; it is hooked up to all kinds of data feeding electronics plus a phone line to call someone should it stop or fail. More simialr equipment turning fans on and off 25000 times, plus checking bearing wear and friction, Electrical engineers doing electrical stuff... what a fun place. :B - Paul_TurpinExplorerOne of many, is why did they put the washer on a three inch high wood platform over top of a lot of electrical equipment on the 2004 37C? Is there anything we can do to protect the equipment (12V @ 110) from water damage when the washer leaks water. It is not if but when it will leak water.
On my kitchen slideout there is a plastic like pad on the inside that it slides on. One of the plastic pads is loose and moves around is this good or bad?
Let me know how it goes.
Paul - R2DillonExplorerWell, there is an outstanding question on how they have wired the "air horns" on the Pace Arrows. If you can find out exactly where they have connected them, then the rest of us can find out why they are not working.
