MaxxAir fan location question

I have been wanting to purchase a MaxxAir fan for quite some time now, but as an RVer on a budget I just couldn't pull the trigger. As luck would have it, yesterday I stumbled upon and purchased a MaxxAir Deluxe (used) from my local RV supply store.

I originally wanted to put it in the bathroom in place of the "sorry little excuse for a vent fan" that is in there to get better bathroom ventilation. (if you know what I mean)

But then, I thought why not put it in the bedroom vent spot so that it can help pull cooler air into the bedroom during the night and added ventilation while traveling down the road.

A little background on the MH. It's a 96 Allegro 31M with one roof (non-ducted) air unit, a split bathroom feature, and the master bedroom does tend to be warmer than the rest of the MH due to the distance from the A/C unit.

My question to those of you who have either the MaxxAir or Fantastic Fans.... Where did you put it and why?

  • Never thought to turn one to in and the other to out Old Biscuit. Does sound like a good idea to keep the air circulating.
  • We have Fantastic in bedroom...run it on low exhausting out with window by head of bed open. Pulls cool night air across us

We have one in living room also.

Sometimes we turn one on to blow air in and the other to exhaust air out creating air movement from one end to other end.

Sometimes we turn both on exhaust and open various windows
  • If you're trying to cool your bedroom, you don't want it in there. Using it as a whole house cooling unit, you want it the farthest away from the bedroom so that it draws cool air into the bedroom and out through the fan. If you mount it in the bedroom and draw cool air from up front, it won't be very cool by the time it reaches the bedroom.
  • I had one up front but a few months ago I replaced the little fan in the bathroom with one. The only problem with the bathroom is you normally keep the door closed, but I have a big gap at the top and bottom of the door and you can really feel the air moving through the gaps.

I don't know that I wouldn't put one in my bedroom like others have an issue with. On the lower settings they are not that loud at all. I have an AC unit in my bedroom so I can't put one there, but in your case you have the one non-ducted unit and it's in the front. I would think a fantastic fan in the bedroom could do a good job of pulling the cooler air from the front back into the bedroom.
  • Do NOT put it into the bedroom unless you are a sound sleeper. Put it anywhere else and open a bedroom window to draw air in from the outside. We have one in the bathroom and one in the living area. Also, do not have two exhaust fans running at the same time. The air doesn't know which way to go!
  • I have a Fantastic in the kitchen area. Its thermostaticly controled and variable speed. When we camp without power, we open the bedroom windows and set the fan to 70 degrees. seems to work just fine and we don't hear it at all.
  • If you have a vent overtop the bed, putting the fan in the bathroom and sucking air out will cause cool night air to flow in over the bed, with less noise. This is how I set mine up. But those who like strong breeze on them while sleeping may prefer the fan above them and pushing air down.
  • I installed one above the kitchen in the main part of the fifth wheel. The stock one was only accessible with a chair or step stool, so it didn't get used much. The new Maxxair has a remote so it is used effectively a lot! Glad I did it.
  • Our Fantastic Fan is in the front overhead bunk of the c-class. Works great for cooling the rear bedroom (without A/C running) opening a bedroom window and putting the fan on medium or high and drawing in cooler outside air over our bed and out the front. Downside is the noise from the fan, grandsons don't like it when sleeping in the same area.
Others have said that it is quite loud when in the same area as the fan. If we were to move it, I would put it in the bathroom, away from the sleeping areas
