Michelin kaboom! Michelin tire update!

Tire was built 3rd week of July 2014, 32K miles left rear inside. That makes it a 5 year old tire.

proper inflation and coach is within weight guidelines. Driving on the freeway and without warning kaboom!

Lots of damage underneath that I am repairing now. A tire separation really damages things. My repair will include my own upgrades underneath to lessen the carnage should it happen again.
Check your tires. Age, not tread left determines their usefulness.

  • We just replaced all six of our Michelins on our 40' Phaeton Diesel Pusher. Tires were 7 years old. Didn't look bad and probably could have gone another year or maybe longer. We change at 7 years. That's what we had always been told. Never had a blow out or defective tire. Two incidences in 15 years of fulltiming of a nail or sharp object in the tread. Plug and patch on onward we go. Always been happy with the Michelins.

  • I see the LT at the beginning of the tire size. Is that a trailer tire or a light truck tire?
  • Mine were after the recall. I took off Michelin’s but were not in the group that were recalled.it was very specific.
  • There was a recall several years back. Friend's class C got a new set free...do some Google/call, you may get lucky.
  • I am a professional. I spent my career in the trucking heavy equipment industry.the tires show no sign of distress.
  • Goodyear’s are my never again tire. Two blowouts at five years. One was a quarter sized hole from an air bubble that enabled the steel sidewall to rust out.

    I’ve never lost a Michelin.
  • From Mechlin website: Michelin
    Keep five years in mind
After five years or more in use, your tires should be thoroughly inspected at least once per year by a professional.
My rig came with Michelins. They rotted long before five years from the inside out. Strings were showing that wicked water to the interior of tire. Dealer gave me credit for the tire, I changed them all out. Two others showed problems inside when removed from the rim.
Yes, this was sometime ago. Never had Michelins again.
  • A China bomb...oh! Michelin! Sorry Chinese made tire haters.
