Michelin Tires

My tires just came up to the 6 year mark so I had them torn down and inspected by my local Michelin dealer. The steer tires showed some minor cracking so I replaced them for safety sake. The drivers were given a clean bill of health. The current tires are 295/80R/22.5 but I replaced the steer tires with 315/80R/22.5 for two reasons. They have a load range J and the 295's are load range H. The 315's were $45.00 cheaper than the 295's but the FET was a little higher. I'm currently on a trip to YNP and I have to say I'm really impressed with the difference in handling with the 315's over the 295's. I realize the 315's are just a little taller and a shade wider but the handling difference is certainly notable. The original steer tires could have been worn some but not that badly at 29K miles. Using the Michelin Tire Advantage Program I saved about $285 with the new steer tires.

Michelin's on my 5'ver, dry rotted in 4-5 years. Buddy of mine had them on his 1 ton puller and got the same results. Maybe it all depends on how far south you are and the results you'll get. Or maybe they had a defect and never did a recall. Me I would look for a different brand.

Happy so far with BFG's, as is my checkbook.

I have had excellent results with Michelin and Bridgestone over the years. If you join "Family Motor Coach" you can get your Michelins thru them at a highly discounted price. I saved over $400 last summer when I replaced my rears.

There are better choices, despite what the Michelin Tire Cultists will tell you! Hankook, Kelly, Kumho, Sumitomo, etc.

Ive had both, first coach was GY tires this one has Mich, from my experience the GY wore better, with ONLY 8K on this coach the front passenger (when I re-read my post forgot to put in side after passenger) hence right passenger needs replacing hahaha..side is ready to be replaced. I have always maintained correct tire pressure an alignment.

I just had 6 Michelin 295/80R/22.5 XZA2 Energy Installed using the FMCA Michelin program total cost $4200 and they do all the paper work plus the new tires are just 4 weeks old.

Thanks for all your responses. This is perfect, and gives me the confidence that I needed. I know that the suns rays are very harmful to RV tires, because they don't get used like car tires do. Keeping the tires shaded from the sun and use of the space age 303 helps prevent dry rot and cracking, and extends the life of the tires but the experts say to replace the tires after 5 to 7 years anyway. It is far cheaper to replace a tire than it is to pay the repair bill after a tire blows out.

We have B F Goodrich tires which are owned by Michelin and made in the USA. We are very pleased with the B F Goodrich ST230's.

I had Goodyear junk for 11 years. Love my new Michelins.
