Well I have been away and saw this post just now. Conejo has one less Trek as one from their lot is sitting on my driveway. They were really great to work with. - DFordExplorerThe original Safari Treks were higher quality coaches and what made them unique was their length. Yet with the bed that's stored up at the ceiling, they have just as much room as a 6 foot longer coach. I just sold a 38 ft Residency but we have just as much or maybe more room in our 32 ft Trek. The drawback and best feature is the bed. You both have to go to bed and get up at the same time so they're not for everyone. We love ours and plan on taking care of it so it lasts as long as we do.
I'm afraid the quality of the 2016 units just doesn't measure up to the original Treks and that the biggest reason they failed to gain acceptance. The owners of the old Treks would have loved to move up to a new model but after seeing what was labelled a Trek, the knew there was no reason to let go of what they had. - p0ppymanExplorer

If you're looking at a Trek
Thanks Don!
Actually I am looking for a 2016 Flair 26D but they are hard to come by in my area. In the process I found the Monaco which to me is almost identical to the Flair. I realize while they badge it a Trek is bears no lineage or resemblance to the Safari Treks.
We have constraints on our budget, driveway space where we will keep it between trips, and street in front of the house so the Flair / Monaco wheelbase provides the turning radius I need, etc. My wife is retired but I am still planning to work for the next 3 years so this type of unit is a good fit right now. It will also provide an additional room when people visit. - DFordExplorerI purchased a 2001 Residency new a few months after the mfg went bankrupt and all its assets were sold off. Just sold it the other day and never had any issued I couldn't address. We replaced it with a 2004 Safari Trek - Safari was purchased by Monaco about 2001 and production of the Trek ceased in 2008. I don't see that as an issue either. There's seldom an issue with the box itself and everything else there are components that can be repaired or replaced by products available just about anywhere. The refrigerators, furnaces, water heaters, leveling jacks electrical components and other items are pretty much the same regardless of who builds the box.

There's lots of support and help there. - HD8100AExplorerI know this is not in your area but there is a dealer in Thousand Oaks CA that has 4 2016's listed on his site MSRP $112K and he has them marked down to $72K. We bought a used coach from them a few years back. http://www.conejowholesaleauto.com
- p0ppymanExplorerSo I am interested in what would be the risks in purchasing a discontinued model? For example the engine is Ford so parts and service I would think might not be an issue. The generator is an Onan so I would expect no issue there as far as service. I am really open to your thoughts because this unit fits some constraints we have and if the risk was not too great and we could get it at the right price it might make sense.
I would really appreciate you wisdom and thoughts on this one.
Thanks! - DFordExplorerI stopped at the Monaco display while at the Perry, GA FMCA rally in mid-March and asked to see the "new" Trek - under the Holiday Rambler logo. The rep there said the Trek was a trial balloon. He said I could probably find an unsold on at a dealer somewhere (because they were so undesirable and their sales were so poor).
Trek owners say they were surveyed to find out what features they'd like to see if the Treks were brought back - none of those features made it to production - no wonder they weren't well received!rgatijnet1 wrote:
The "new" Trek was being built as an experiment to see if there was enough demand to warrant going in to full production. Apparently at the time when they introduced it in 2014, it was never received by the buying public to the point where people were snatching them up from the dealer's lots.
There was a Trek that was built by Safari starting in 1991 and later Monaco from 2003-2008 that was unique and of high quality. Those older Treks are still cherished and they maintain their value better than many newer coaches. Unfortunately the new Trek did not contain the things that made the older Treks unique and the potential buyers were not impressed. There were many older Trek owners that would have loved a new version of their old units but it turns out the new Trek was a Trek in name only. - crassterExplorer IIYeah, I understand the want for that coach. I like them.
- Gone_fishing1ExplorerThanks for all of the info. Guess I will have to start looking again.
