I recall an old song that applies to these threds: Skip A Rope
The verse that applies:
Cheating on your taxes, don't it feel cool
What's that you said about the Golden Rule
Forget the rules just play to win
And hate you neighbor for the shade of his skin
Skip a rope
Skip a rope
Listen to the children as they play
Ain't it kind of funny what the children say
Skip a rope
That was popular around 1970 give or take a few years.
To those who would like to imply that there is something wrong with LEGALLY keeping your taxes as low as possible, I offer this quotation from the noted jurist Learned Hand:
"Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which best pays the treasury. There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes.
Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands." - wa8yxmExplorer IIII recall an old song that applies to these threds: Skip A Rope

TinMac, if it was a private party sale there is no sales tax. DMV fees should'nt be that bad for that old of a coach.
The sale was in AZ thru a consignment lot, I think he is still on the hook for taxes not sure but he is also doing this to get the low cost plates and yearly tags. - peaches_creamExplorer

The REASON only two posts talk about the OP's question is that this topic has been beat and beat and beat.....a very SIMPLE search using the box above as 2oldman did, will reveal at least a weeks worth of reading on this subject.
To answer the OPs question: If you're forming the LLC for a business purpose AND you follow ALL the rules pertaining to that, then it's legal. If you're forming the LLC strictly to avoid paying your home State's taxes AND you violate any of the rules, then it's fraud and very strict penalties follow....Dennis

IN BEFORE THE LOCK! - peaches_creamExplorerIs it not amazing? 2 pages of post and 2 posters answered the question. Just like asking about a certain brand of RV and everyone wants to tell you how to build said RV, even though they never owned a RV or have never worked on one. :S

You get the popcorn I'll get the horse. - exgmanExplorerWhen I was researching my new motorhome purchase I contacted Bennett in Missoula. They sent me the laws for California, and after calling them back several times with specific questions, decided not to do the LLC. I felt they were honest and above board with me. I would recommend them.
