- msmith1199Explorer IIYou really can't compare the Jeep Cherokee with the Chev Equinox. The Jeep is a truck type vehicle designed to go off road. The Equinox is a car with an SUV body. Two different types of vehicles. Not saying the Equinox is bad, I've never driven one. If you're looking for basically a station-wagon that is what the new crossover vehicles basically are. They have made them look more like SUV's, but they are still just a car. To me the Jeep vehicles just go with RV's because of the off road capability. But if you don't ever plan on leaving the paved highways, then you probably don't need a Jeep anyway.
- Executive45Explorer IIIWhen we were looking, our short list was the Jeep Cherokee. We liked the looks and some of the convenience items they offered. The storage compartment INSIDE the passenger seat was cool. The negative was the harsh ride, but as said, it's a Jeep. We've owned Wranglers and Grand Cherokees. Jeeps also come a little on the heavy side. Anyway, I ended up driving a Chevy Equinox LTZ and there was no comparison. The ride was superior and the interior space was larger. Comparably equipped, the Equinox came in almost $2k less than the Jeep. Our list included, moon roof, remote start, leather interior, heated seats, navigation system etc. The rear seat folds flat for extra carrying capacity and there is no rear seat hump. Drive both vehicles and I think you'll agree.
To tow the Equinox, a fuse had to be pulled so I installed a toggle switch so I could flip that instead of pulling the fuse. The towed mileage does not show nor has the battery ever run down. I use the Ready Brute tow system with a BlueOx baseplate, so there is no add on braking system.
We are happy we chose the Equinox over the Jeep......good luck with your choice...Dennis - vegasfoodguyExplorer II

That's just crazy...
There's nothing at all wrong with Jeep vehicles.
The Wrangler has to be the single most common 4 wheel down toad out there!
X2, I have a Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, I tow both and are great cars. - wolfe10ExplorerJust got my January issue of the FMCA Magazine. Starting on page 44 is the annual "what is towable 4 wheels down" listing, along with weights and restrictions.
The What is towable 4 wheels down guide is also available to FMCA members on-line for model years 1999- 2014. 2015 (this month's magazine) not on-line yet: http://www.fmca.com/motorhome/towing.html

- Johno02ExplorerThe trick to easy hookup is not so much the toad, but the towbar itself. preferred is one that stays attached to the Motor Home, with attachment points on the toad. As far as vehicles, if you can find one, a Chevy HHR is simple. compact, lightweight, and should be pretty inexpensive since they are no longer made. With our Blue OX towbar, we can attach or detach in less than a minute. Two safety cables, two pins to insert for the towbar and the power cord to plug in. There are others that attach the same way, but I am not current on those.
- doxiemom11Explorer IIWe are currently driving a 95 Jeep Cherokee that we bought used 3 years ago. We have 209,000 miles on it and have replaced a water pump, and a rear brake line. The engine is still stong, the body is in good shape with very minor rust and it lived in MI for many years. Yes, we were surprised by the condition too.
- bluwtr49Explorer IIWhen it comes to Jeeps...count me in the fan corner. Our '97 GC limited was a dream to tow but yep it drove like a Jeep. Now have an '02 GC Overland still tows like a champ but drives a little less like a Jeep. We do have an '06 Jeep Liberty Diesel which is more like a skateboard and a ball to drive but the tires light up if one gets a bit frisky with the go pedal.
- mowermechExplorerI don't believe anything CR says about Jeep. Their testers never have liked them.
I had a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited that I towed behind a 460 Ford 29 foot class C and behind the Class A in my sig. I made several trips to Ca and back driving that Jeep. No problems at all. IMO, the ride and the road noise were no worse than that in my PT Cruiser Convertible!
Personally, I would not buy a Honda of any kind.
For a vehicle to tow 4 down, I would recommend a Jeep Wrangler with no reservations whatsoever! - imgoin4itExplorerWe towed a jeep liberty for 10 years had about 110,000 miles on it and towed another 100,000. I'd never want one for only daily driver but towing was great. Did have some problrms. Three sets of ball joints and when traded had spent $400 each of last 4 months on fixing things that broke. Now tow a Chevy Silverado. Just as easy to hook up but about 1000 pounds heavier than jeep. Jeep and Silverado are only two brands I have towed. Have looked at new jeep cherokee and believe it might be the next one I tow.
