Newman - I to would have questioned your advice, and did at first glance!! . As you in your first post did not state you had cautioned the op re . the fire danger! and did not state your expertise.. This is a forum after all with some great advice and a good measure of bad. If you would have said I had him bypass the switch and cautioned about the dangers. Nobody would have said word one :-)
I'm sure the op is greatful for your help!
