Need help with decision on my coach

Folk's my wife and I are lucky to be in our late 40's and have 43 ft DP that we like and maintain.
Beaver 2007 Contessa 16,489 miles and paid for. We do however still need to work like most and wish to continue to travel, however we don't take long trips like we would like because of family time with 2 adult college grad girls that consume some of our time.

My concern is the following. We do wish to retire and travel full time in of course 10 to 15 years. I would not expect to have our current coach in use by then. Do I sell her now and take a break for 5 to 7 years and invest that money to buy newer DP when we get closer to retirement or slowly upgrade to newer year as we approach retirement. Any reasonable and advice appreciated.

  • Keep what you have until the wheels fall off and pack away as much as possible for the next coach. The slow upgrade a year or two before going full or semi-full time with no or a very small/short pay down schedule is our plan.
  • I would say keep what you have, especially if it's paid for. Force yourself to use it, a break from work makes a more happy worker. If you find you can't leave town, make yourself appoitments to start it and maybe once every couple of months take it for a drive as a last resort.
Keep it as long as maintence cost don't go above value. With 16.5k miles it's not even broke in yet. With a diesel that "starts" to happen around 25k miles.
So question is, is it paid for?
  • I hope you didn't buy your DP as an investment, with that said I would keep what you have and like for as long as possible, then at the time your ready for a new one buy what you want. So you can RV any time you want to get away.If you can save some money in the meantime all the better for your next one. Im 70 and have had 3 RVs this is my last.2006 Southwind 37c 15000 miles, and love going when we want. Cross country next year,7000,miles this year. Good Luck
