Looks like it wasn't a scam just lack of knowing how to do it to protect yourself. I have done this twice. Once I transferred the money to the lien holder and they released the lien and gave me the title. The other time the owner signed and gave me the title and I went to GMAC and paid off the lien and they gave me a lien release. No way would I give the owner the money and trust him to pay it off------

Well I did it only hold up was front AC when it was checked out the service man knew what it was leaking freon needs a total replacement ordered under warranty and will be replaced early next week. Will follow up with seeking help to figure how to operate things.

Caution, you are getting real close to thin ice. The lien holder is king of the hill in this deal. As stated above a solicitor or an escrow agent is imperative. They are then legally responsible for your unencumbered acquisition of the vehicle.

Thanks for all the great advice, I am on the way to a Bank of America office here at home, to rest my mind about the following info, talked to DMV was told that when I pay BOA the money, they will give me a lein satisfied letter I should take that with the owner to DMV where I can then register the RV and of course pay the sales tax.

I would like to thank everyone for the help my nervous mind was running in overdrive.

The owner is going to deliver to me tomorrow I will report back when this is over one way or the other.

RUN away from this deal or get a good attorney or escrow company involved.

All good advice, but the Lien holder is not going to release the title until it has the money., if the seller does not have the funds to pay off loan you will have to go to plan B, (usually due to privacy rights the loan co. cannot discuss any part of the financing with you).
In my purchase I paid the Seller a Partial Payment, used an attorney to handle the Sale, I received a bill of sale from Fl.(a printed form used by the state), I also took position of the MH at that time, insurance co will insure you with the bill of sale., so if any damage occurs you will be able to deal directly with the insurance co., I was told that it was legal for me to use his registration until the title arrived. The Attorney dealt with the Bank and mailed me a title in about a week. In my case all went well., attorney fees was $150. which we split.
