- RoadXYZExplorer IIWish the square Corelle dishes were around when we started full-timing .. have also seen square paper plates .. makes it nice to put in the cupboards .. we went down to service for 4 in dishware, but flatware for 6 or 8 depending on the flatware .. we originally had service for 12 plus serving pieces and also carry the rest of the set with us (in the under bed storage).
Have found a number of pots & pans in thrift stores, as well as a manual can opener .. getting too old to pay some of those retail prices for 'designer' kitchen tools. BTW did find a 7"x5" electric fry pan for breakfasts (at a thrift store again), and hubby loves it rather than the small square one we had which was given to a thrift store.
We go to thrift stores (Goodwill, St. V's, and Kiwanis) for books, and have picked up a number of bargains from what appears to be from homes where probably Grandma went to the nursing home and never used the pots/pans, etc. - phrancExplorerCorelli and paper/strofoam
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWe've full-timed for 16 years using Corelle. We cook they way we cooked in a S&B and we have everything to let us do so.
- We_Cant_WaitExplorerDon't count on the Corelle NOT breaking. The DW broke 2 bowls this summer, and the dishes are 6 years old. Reason they broke REAL tile floors in the new Motorhomes. They literally explode when they hit the tile floors.
- Mr_Mark1ExplorerWe bought a set of nice ceramic dishes but found we rarely used them so I took them out as they were rather heavy. We use those heavy weight paper plates with a raised edge. I think I get them at Costco. We alternate with plastic throw away cups and regular plastic washable dish-ware.
Like Clay L., I like my adult beverage in a real 'cocktail' glass. We have a dishwasher so it gets used with plastic dishes, metal forks, spoons, cooking utensils, coffee cups, etc.
MM. - klmExplorerCorelle for 4 - but must confess - most of the time we use paper plates. Environment trade off - trees for paper products, but use less water since no need to wash dishes!! enjoy fulltiming - been on the road for 6 yrs - great lifestyle
- Clay_LExplorerWe also use Corelle and have a service for eight plus with us.
We use glass glasses for our wine and adult drinks. I refuse to drink my scotch from a plastic glass.
We often entertain and have had a Thanksgiving dinner for 19 people. That was in the summer in NH where our kids were because we had not had Thanksgiving dinner with them in years. We had to borrow a picnic table from the site next to us.
When we have a turkey I cut it in half length ways so it will fit in our small oven (laying down in a pan). We have much of what we had in the stick house with us or have figured out how to duplicate it in some way. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
I tried Corelle too--but I dropped a plate--shards of glass with ultra sharp edges everywhere.
I wanted something safe for the microwave, but sturdy enough to hold the food without flexing. - WoodGlueExplorerX5 on the Corelle. They sell a plate and bowl combo at Amazon for an inexpensive price iirc.
WoodGlue - mockturtleExplorer III like my Corelle.
